Malthouse Theatre, Melbourne
Malthouse Theatre is the resident theatre company of The Malthouse building in Southbank, part of the Melbourne Arts Precinct. In the 1980s it was known as the Playbox Theatre Company and was housed in the Playbox Theatre in Melbourne's CBD. A multidisciplinary contemporary theatre, Malthouse Theatre produces and/or presents many productions annually, from drama and comedy to contemporary opera, music theatre and cabaret, to contemporary dance and physical theatre. Australian Centre For Contemporary Art
The Australian Centre For Contemporary Art (ACCA) is a contemporary art gallery in Melbourne, Australia. The gallery is located on Sturt Street in the Melbourne Arts Precinct, in the inner suburb of Southbank. Designed by Wood Marsh Architects, the building was completed in 2002, and includes facilities for Chunky Move dance company and the Malthouse Theatre. Max Delany has been Artistic Director and CEO of the centre since 2015. History The centre was established in 1983, and moved into its current home in 2002. In December 2015, Max Delany, formerly senior curator of contemporary art at the National Gallery of Victoria, was announced as the new artistic director of ACCA, replacing the outgoing artistic director Juliana Engberg. ''Cloudstreet'' is a novel by Australian writer Tim Winton published in 1991. It chronicles the lives of two working-class families, the Pickles and the Lambs, who come to live together in a large house called Cloudstreet in Perth, Western Australia, over a period of twenty years, 1943 to 1963. Chunky Move
Chunky Move is an Australian contemporary dance company from Southbank, Victoria It was founded in 1995 and debuted at the Melbourne International Arts Festival with artistic director Gideon Obarzanek. The company's work is diverse and has included stage, new-media and installation works. Chunky Move has toured extensively including the United States of America, Singapore, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Hungary, United Kingdom, Colombia, Japan, Belgium, Canada and Russia. Reviews of their performances are regularly published in the Village Voice. In 2011 Gideon Obarzanek announced that he would be stepping down as artistic director. Dame Margery Merlyn Myer (; 8 January 19003 September 1982) was an Australian philanthropist, who was notable for her charitable work. Birth and marriage Born as Margery Merlyn Baillieu in Queenscliff, Victoria, Australia, to George Francis Baillieu and Agnes Sheehan, a well-to-do couple, she attended Cromarty Girls' School, and the University of Melbourne. Robyn Archer, AO, CdOAL (born 1948) is an Australian singer, writer, stage director, artistic director, and public advocate of the arts, in Australia and internationally. Life Archer was born Robyn Smith in Prospect, South Australia. Castlemaine Brewery
The Castlemaine Brewery was an Australian brewery and brewing company established in 1857 by Edward Fitzgerald. He was joined in the business by his brother Nicholas Fitzgerald in 1859, after which the firm spread rapidly, opening breweries in Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney and Brisbane, along with smaller breweries at Daylesford and Newbridge. Graeme Blundell (born 7 August 1945) is an Australian actor, director, producer, writer, playwright, lyricist and biographer Early life Blundell was born on 7 April 1945 in Melbourne; he grew up in the suburb of Clifton Hill. Carrillo Gantner
Carrillo Baillieu Gantner (born June 17th, 1944) is an American-Australian, who is noted as a Victorian cultural leader and philanthropist and a member of the Melbourne retailing Myer family. Biography He was born in San Francisco, California, the son of Neilma Gantner with philanthropist and author Vallejo Gantner, and grandson of Merlyn Myer and Sidney Myer, founder of the Myer retail chain. His most well known achievement lies in the area of founding theatres and theatre companies. He founded the Playbox Theatre in 1976 and in the late 1980s was the driving force for the building of the Malthouse Theatre complex which opened in 1990.
