Mali Lošinj
Mali Lošinj ( it, Lussinpiccolo, vec, Lusinpicolo) is a town in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, on the island of Lošinj, in western Croatia. At the time of the 2011 census, there were 8,116 inhabitants, of whom 86% were Croats. The favourable climatic conditions, the construction of hotels and resorts, foresting and maintenance of beaches have led to an intensive development of tourism. The town is located in the most protected part of the Lošinj bay, on the eastern, sunny side of the island. The asteroid 10415 Mali Lošinj is named after this town. History The town was first mentioned in 1398, under the name Malo selo ("small village"). In 1868, it experienced its golden year. There were as many as eleven shipyards, and it became the place with the largest and most developed merchant marine in the Adriatic Sea, even ahead of cities like Rijeka, Trieste and Venice. ''Peronospora'' is a genus of oomycetes that are obligate plant pathogens of many eudicots. Most species in this group produce a downy mildew disease, which can cause severe damage to many different cultivated crops, as well as wild and ornamental plants. There are 19 genera that produce downy mildew, and ''Peronospora'' has been placed alongside '' Pseudoperonospora'' in the group of downy mildews with coloured conidia. The Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography ( hr, Leksikografski zavod Miroslav Krleža or LZMK) is Croatia's national lexicographical institution. Matteo Martinolich
Matteo Martinolich (10 February 1860 - 23 December 1934) was an American master shipbuilder. He was the first to use Mississippi pine in the building of seagoing vessels, which was approved by the Marine Underwriters. Born in Mali Lošinj, Croatia (at the time part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire), the son of Francesco Stanislao Martinolich and Maria Dominica Merlo, he initially studied naval architecture and received training in carpentry at the Austrian naval shipyards in Pola (present-day Pula, Croatia). At that time, Pola was the chief naval base of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He arrived in the United States at the age of 23, landing in New Orleans with his brother Francesco (Frank) Martinolich. They settled shortly after in DeLisle, Mississippi, where Matteo worked for local shipbuilder Antonio Pavolini, originally from Italy. Matteo married Antonio's oldest daughter, Johanna, in 1885. Gari Cappelli () (born 16 May 1961) is a Croatian politician who had served as the Minister of Tourism in the Cabinet of Andrej Plenković from 2016 to 2020. He also served as mayor of Mali Lošinj between 2005 and 2016. Early life Cappelli was born on 16 May 1961 in Mali Lošinj in a family with origins from Padua, Italy. Political career Cappelli joined HDZ in 1992 and soon became the head of Mali Lošinj's HDZ town committee and started work in the county party committee. In 1999, due to his perfect knowledge of the Italian language, he was posted at the Croatian Consulate General in the Italian city of Trieste, where he was in charge of economic co-operation. The Alliance of Primorje-Gorski Kotar ( hr, Primorsko-goranski savez or PGS) is a minor Croatian liberal regionalist political party of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.
