Maizefield
Maizefield, often locally called Maizeland, is a historic house on West Market Street (New York State Route 199) in the village of Red Hook, New York, United States. It is a large plain brick building, in the Federal style, with clear English Georgian influences, built around the end of the 18th century. In 1973 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house was occupied by General David Van Ness, a Continental Army officer during the Revolutionary War and later Brigadier General of the Dutchess County Militia, state assemblyman and senator who was the first supervisor of the Town of Red Hook. It is not known if the house was built prior to his ownership; he sold the property shortly before his death in the 1810s. Red Hook (village), New York
Red Hook is a village in Dutchess County, New York, United States. The population was 1,961 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Poughkeepsie– Newburgh– Middletown, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the larger New York– Newark–Bridgeport, NY- NJ- CT- PA Combined Statistical Area. The name is derived from the Dutch "Roode Hoeck" – ''hoeck'' meaning peninsula, and ''roode'' meaning red – a reference to the vibrant reds in the area's fall foliage. The village is in the town of Red Hook, located on U.S. Route 9. Red Hook is near Bard College and the Hudson River. History The region was part of the Schuyler Patent. Red Hook High School
