Mahtomedi ( ) is a city in Washington County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 7,676 at the 2010 census. Mahtomedi is considered to be a suburb of St. Paul, and is located between St. Paul and Stillwater. Geography Mahtomedi is about 15 miles northeast of St. Paul, the capital of Minnesota. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which is land and is water, part of which is White Bear Lake. Interstate 694 and Mahtomedi Avenue are two of the main routes in the community. History Mahtomedi was platted in 1883. The city name is from the Dakota for White Bear Lake - mató, the gray bear, and mde, a lake. A post office was established at Mahtomedi in 1884, and remains in operation today on Wildwood Road. Interstate 694 (I-694) is an east–west auxiliary Interstate Highway located in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area in the US state of Minnesota. Mahtomedi Senior High School is a four-year public high school located in Mahtomedi, Minnesota, United States. The school houses grades 912 with a total population of approximately 1,146 students. About 22% of this population are from surrounding districts due to open enrollment. The school colors are blue and gold, and the athletic teams are known as the Zephyrs. The district (district #0832) was created in 1870, and the original high school was built in 1930. Oakdale is a city in Washington County, Minnesota, United States. It is a suburb of Saint Paul and is on the eastern side of the Twin Cities Metropolitan area. Lake Elmo is a city in Washington County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 11,335 at the 2020 census. According to 2021 census estimates, the city is estimated to have a population of 12,899. Much of the area within the city limits is still farmland, giving the city a rural appearance. Hugo is a city north of downtown Saint Paul in Washington County in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The population was 14,767 at the 2020 census.
