Mahmoud Hawari
Mahmoud Hawari is a Palestinian archaeologist and academic. From 2016 to 2018 he was the director of The Palestinian Museum in Birzeit (25 km north of Jerusalem), which was officially inaugurated in May 2016. Mahmoud Hawari was born in Tarshiha, Israel, and received master's and PhD degrees from the University of London. From 2004 to 2007 he was a lecturer at the University of Oxford, and from 2009 to 2012 a visiting professor at Birzeit University, having previously taught at Al-Quds University and Bethlehem University. He was appointed in May 2016, two weeks before the museum's opening, and succeeded Jack Persekian, who resigned over disagreements with the board after three and a half years. The Palestinian Museum
The Palestinian Museum is a flagship project of the Welfare Association, a non-profit organization for developing humanitarian projects in Palestine. Representing the history and aspirations of the Palestinian people, the museum aims to discuss the past, present, and future of Palestine. The museum building in Birzeit, 25 km north of Jerusalem, was inaugurated on 18 May 2016. The inaugural exhibition "Jerusalem Lives" was opened on 26 August 2017. On 29 August 2019, the museum received the Aga Khan Award for Architecture. Birzeit
Birzeit ( ar, بيرزيت), also Bir Zeit, is a Palestinian Christian town north of Ramallah, in the central West Bank. Its population in the 2007 census was 4,529. Birzeit is the home to Birzeit University and to the Birzeit Brewery. Location Bir Zeit is located north of Ramallah. Ma'alot-Tarshiha ( he, מַעֲלוֹת-תַּרְשִׁיחָא; ar, معالوت ترشيحا, ''Maʻālūt Taršīḥā'') is a city in the North District in Israel, some east of Nahariya, about above sea level. Birzeit University
Birzeit University (BZU; ar, جامعة بيرزيت) is a public university in the West Bank, in the State of Palestine, registered by the Palestinian Ministry of Social Affairs as charitable organization. Jack Persekian
Jack Persekian (born 1962) is a Palestinian artist and curator from Jerusalem. He is of Armenian descent and a United States citizen. Biography Born to an Armenian family in East Jerusalem, Persekian started his career in the arts world as a musician and music promoter in the 1980s, before turning to the visual arts. After returning from an extended stay in the United States in 1992, he founded Anadiel Gallery in the Christian Quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City, as the first independent gallery in the Palestinian territories under Israeli occupation, with a focus on contemporary Palestinian artists. In 1996, he invited Palestinian-British artist Mona Hatoum to Jerusalem and subsequently organized her first exhibition in Palestine.
