Madison Township is one of the twelve townships of Williams County, Ohio, United States. The 2000 census found 2,539 people in the township, 1,079 of whom lived in the unincorporated portions of the township. Geography Located in the northern part of the county along the Michigan state line, it borders the following townships: * Amboy Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan - north * Mill Creek Township - east * Jefferson Township - south * Superior Township - southwest * Bridgewater Township - west The village of Pioneer is located in northwestern Madison Township, and the unincorporated community of Kunkle is located in its southwest. James Madison Jr. (March 16, 1751June 28, 1836) was an American statesman, diplomat, and Founding Father. He served as the fourth president of the United States from 1809 to 1817. ''The Bryan Times'' is a daily newspaper based in Bryan, Ohio. It came into being on February 2, 1949, as a result of a merger of ''The Bryan Democrat'' and ''The Bryan Press''. On September 12, 1949, it became a daily newspaper delivered six days per week, Monday through Saturday. History ''The Bryan Press'', a weekly newspaper, had its roots in the ''Republican Standard'' of 1854 and the twice-weekly ''Bryan Democrat'' which began in 1863. Toledo War
The Toledo War (1835–36), also known as the Michigan–Ohio War or the Ohio–Michigan War, was an almost bloodless boundary dispute between the U.S. state of Ohio and the adjoining territory of Michigan over what is now known as the Toledo Strip. Control of the mouth of the Maumee River and the inland shipping opportunities it represented, and the good farmland to the west were seen by both parties as valuable economic assets. Pioneer, Ohio
Pioneer is a village in Williams County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,369 at the 2010 census. History Pioneer was platted in 1853. A post office has been in operation at Pioneer since 1851. From 1903, the village was the terminus of an electric interurban passenger railroad from Toledo called the Toledo and Western Railway, which was hoping to become a link in an electric rail service from that city to Chicago but which got no further. The line closed to passengers in 1933 but continued freight service until 1943, from 1934 as the Pioneer and Fayette Railroad. This was only formally abandoned in 1991.
