Madison Township, Butler County, Ohio
Madison Township is one of thirteen townships in Butler County, Ohio, United States. Located in northeastern Butler County, just west of Middletown, it had a population of 8,556 people as of the 2020 census. While it surrounds the city of Trenton, the city is no longer part of the township. It is named for James Madison, president of the United States at the time of its creation in 1810, and is one of twenty Madison Townships statewide. Geography The township is in what is commonly known as the Congress Lands, that part of Ohio surveyed under the regular U.S. government survey. It originally consisted of 32 whole and 19 fractional sections. Civil Township
A civil township is a widely used unit of local government in the United States that is subordinate to a county, most often in the northern and midwestern parts of the country. James Madison
James Madison Jr. (March 16, 1751June 28, 1836) was an American statesman, diplomat, and Founding Father. He served as the fourth president of the United States from 1809 to 1817. Madison is hailed as the "Father of the Constitution" for his pivotal role in drafting and promoting the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights. Madison was born into a prominent slave-owning planter family in Virginia. West Middletown, Ohio
West Middletown is an unincorporated community in eastern Madison Township, Butler County, Ohio, United States. It is located on the west shore of the Great Miami River about one mile from Middletown. It had about 200 people in 1905 and was formerly a station on the Cincinnati, Hamilton, and Dayton Railroad. Founded as Madison City, it received the name Heno when it was awarded a post office in 1882. Since there was already another Madison City in Ohio, the postmaster general demanded a name change. According to legend, as old-timers were discussing the new name around the cracker barrel in the general store, a can of Heno tea caught their attention. So the town was named for the tea. But in 1907, the postmaster general decreed the village was within the shadow of Middletown, and only a few postal workers had ever heard of Heno, making it difficult to sort and forward mail to the place. Poasttown, Ohio
Poast Town is an unincorporated community located in northeastern Madison Township, Butler County, Ohio, United States, on State Route 4, about one mile north of Middletown in Section 12 of T2R4 of the Congress Lands. Gratis Township is one of the twelve townships of Preble County, Ohio, United States. The 2000 census found 4,471 people in the township, 3,343 of whom lived in the unincorporated portions of the township. Liberty Township is an affluent suburb of Cincinnati located in Butler County, Ohio. It is one of thirteen townships in Butler County, Ohio, United States. It is located on the east-central part of the county, just south of the city of Monroe. With an area of about it is smallest of the thirteen townships but one of the fastest-growing areas in southwest Ohio, having a population of 37,259 at the 2010 census, up from 22,819 in 2000 and just 9,249 in 1990. Lemon Township is one of thirteen townships in Butler County, Ohio, United States. Located in the northeastern part of the county, it includes most of the city of Monroe. It had a population of 16,885 at the 2020 census. It is the only Lemon Township statewide. History The township as originally created was approximately and included all of the Butler County portions of what is Middletown and most of the Butler County part of Monroe, the remainder being in Liberty Township. The southern part of the township was within the limits of the Symmes Purchase, the northern boundary today being marked by Todhunter Road, north of the southern boundary. It was bounded on the east by the Warren County line and on the west and north by the Great Miami River.
