Mexborough Railway Station
Mexborough railway station serves the former mining town of Mexborough, South Yorkshire, England. It is a station on the Sheffield to Doncaster Line south west of Doncaster. As the original station at Mexborough Junction did not serve the line to Rotherham and Sheffield when this opened it was replaced by a new station built immediately on the Doncaster side of the junction. The new station was approximately halfway between Mexborough Junction and Mexborough (Ferry Boat) Halt and was able to serve the town centre at the top of Station Road. It was on 1 June 1874 that the third side of the triangle (Mexborough Reverse Curve) was put in place which allowed trains to work from the Sheffield line to Barnsley without need of reversal. This was closed on 5 September 1966. Byron Johnson (baseball)
Byron Emmerson Johnson (September 16, 1911 – September 24, 2005), also known as Mex Johnson, was a baseball player in the Negro leagues. His nickname came from a hat he wore as a child which looked like a sombrero. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, United States, he began his Negro leagues career in 1937 as a shortstop with the Kansas City Monarchs and stayed with the Monarchs until his retirement in 1940. He also was on the road team the Monarchs called the Satchel Paige All Stars from 1939 to 1940. Johnson accomplishments as a player included being selected as a member of the Negro leagues East-West All-Star team in 1938. The Negro League Baseball museum, located in Kansas City, Mo, used to have a sculpture that was set out which was his hands holding a bat. Many thought that was the hands of Buck O’Neil, another more well-known player, but it was Mr. Johnson’s. In mathematics, the mex of a subset of a well-ordered set is the smallest value from the whole set that does not belong to the subset. That is, it is the minimum value of the complement set. The name "mex" is shorthand for "''m''inimum ''ex''cluded" value. Beyond sets, subclasses of well-ordered classes have minimum excluded values. Minimum excluded values of subclasses of the ordinal numbers are used in combinatorial game theory to assign nim-values to impartial games. According to the Sprague–Grundy theorem, the nim-value of a game position is the minimum excluded value of the class of values of the positions that can be reached in a single move from the given position.
