Murray Football League
The Murray Football Netball League is an Australian rules football and netball league affiliated with the Victorian Country Football League. The league covers a large area of northern Victoria and southern New South Wales from Shepparton in the south to Deniliquin in the north. It covers much the same area as the Picola & District Football League but the teams tend to be the larger communities and towns. History The "Murray Football League" (MFL) was established in 1931, when it superseded the old Goulburn Valley Football Association, with the following clubs, Barooga, Cobram, Numurkah, Strathmerton and Tocumwal. Nathalia Football Club's admission into the MFL was initially rejected in 1931 by club delegates and they entered the Western and Moira Ridings Football Association. The Central Murray Football Netball League (CMFNL) is a major country Australian rules football and netball competition based in northern Victoria and southwest New South Wales in Australia. History The league was formed in 1997, combining all eight teams from the existing Mid Murray Football League, and three sides from the Northern & Echuca Football League. Leitchville-Gunbower joined the league in 2002 from the North Central Football League, while Tooleybuc merged with former Mallee Football League club Manangatang in 2004. Numurkah, Victoria
Numurkah ( ) is a town in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia, located on the Goulburn Valley Highway, north of Shepparton, in the Shire of Moira. At the , Numurkah had a population of 4,768. History The area was occupied by the Yorta Yorta people prior to European settlement. Squatters moved into the area from NSW in the late 1830s. After the pastoral runs were made available for farm selection, the township of Numurkah was surveyed in 1875, the Post Office opening 2 November 1878. The Numurkah railway station, Victoria, local railway station was opened on the Goulburn Valley railway line, Victoria, Goulburn Valley railway in 1881, but has not seen any passenger services since 1993 when the train to Cobram was withdrawn. Barooga Football Club
The Barooga Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Hawks'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Barooga located in the Riverina district of New South Wales. The club was formed in 1894 and initially played in the Murray Border Football Association in 1894. When the club won the Federal District Football Association premiership against Cobram Football Club in 1897, they were known as "The Boomerangs" and wore a red and white uniform. When Barooga FC re-formed in 1907 they wore an all-blue uniform in the Goulburn Valley Football Association in 1907 and 1908. The Kyabram District Football Netball League (KDL) is a minor Australian rules football league in Victoria (Australia), Victoria made up of 15 teams. The KDL is made up of smaller country town football clubs in the Goulburn Valley. The majority of these towns have a population base of around 1000 people, each of these clubs aims to field four football sides in the Senior, Reserve, Under 18 and Under 15 divisions of the KDFL as well as eight netball sides in A-Grade, B-Grade, C-Grade, C Reserve, 17 & Under, 15 & Under, 13 & Under and 11 & Under divisions, The KDL season is made up of 18 rounds in the home and away season, with each side playing 16 games, at the conclusion of the home and away season, the top six teams in each division face off in the finals series. The Goulburn Valley League (GVL), also known as the Goulburn Valley Football Netball League (GVFNL), is an Australian rules football and netball competition based in the Goulburn Valley region of Victoria, Australia, Victoria. History The league was initially called the Goulburn Valley District Football Association (GVDFA) and dates back to May 1893. Clubs from the townships of Kyabram, Mooroopna, Nagambie, Nathalia, Numurkah, Shepparton, Shepparton Ramblers, Tatura, Undera and Wunghnu were present at the inaugural meeting, with club's deciding to play on a Wednesday afternoon. The Rumbalara Football Netball Club (Rumbalara FNC), nicknamed Rumba, is an Aboriginal Australian sporting club located in Shepparton, Victoria. The club's teams play Australian Rules Football (in the Murray Football League) since 2006. History The club has its roots in the Cummeragunja Reserve, whose last residents were moved to Rumbalara in 1956. The Rumbalara Football Club debuted in 1997 in second division of the Goulburn Valley Football League and finished fourth. The following year it won the Second division pennant, defeating Alexandra. The Tongala Football Club, nicknamed the Blues, is an Australian rules football club playing in the Murray Football League. The club is based in the town of Tongala located in the north of Victoria. History The Tongala Football Club was formed in 1894 in a meeting at Mangan's Victoria Hotel, Tongala, with games played at Tongala Recreation Reserve.
