Mukim Kuala Balai is a mukim located in the Belait District of Brunei, known for its unique geographical setting. As of 2016, the population was recorded at just 31 residents. The village of Kampong Kuala Balai is situated in the upper Kumgang region of Belait, forming part of the Mukim Kuala Balai catchment area. It is located approximately from Kuala Belait. However, Kampong Kuala Balai is currently uninhabited due to factors such as migration to other villages and employment opportunities elsewhere, leading to a decline in its once-thriving community. Before the outbreak of World War II in the Pacific, the island of Borneo was divided into five territories. Four of the territories were in the north and under British control – Sarawak, Brunei, Labuan, an island, and British North Borneo; while the remainder, and bulk, of the island, was under the jurisdiction of the Dutch East Indies. Kampong Mumong (), or simply known as Mumong, is a residential suburb of Kuala Belait, the principal town of Belait District, in Brunei, Brunei Darussalam. Mukim Labi is a mukim in the interior of Belait District, Brunei. It has an area of ; the population was 1,216 in 2016. Geography The mukim is located in the central and south-western part of the district, bordering Mukim Liang to the north, Mukim Bukit Sawat to the north-east, Mukim Sukang to the east, the Malaysian state of Sarawak to the south and west and Mukim Kuala Balai and Mukim Seria to the north-west. It is regarded as part of ("Belait Interior"). It was where oil was first struck in Brunei in 1929 and has since become a centre for the country's oil and gas industry.
