Mukgye Seowon
Mukgye Seowon is a ''seowon'' located at Mukgye-ri, Giran-myeon of the Andong City, North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. Seowon is a type of local academy during the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1897). It was established by the local Confucian scholars in 1706, the 32nd year of King Sukjong's reign to commemorate the scholarly achievement and good dead of Kim Gye-haeng (金係行 1431–1517) and Ok Go (玉沽 1382–1436) both of which were civil ministers. The structure was in danger of burning down during the March 2025 South Korea wildfires. Seowon
() were the most common educational institutions of Korea during the Joseon Dynasty. They were private institutions, and combined the functions of a Confucian shrine and a Confucian school. In educational terms, the were primarily occupied with preparing young men for the gwageo, national civil service examinations. In most cases, served only pupils of the aristocratic class. On 6 July 2019, UNESCO recognized a collection of nine as World Heritage Sites. Andong () is a Administrative divisions of South Korea, city in South Korea, and the capital of North Gyeongsang Province. It is the largest city in the northern part of the province with a population of 167,821 as of October 2010. The Nakdong River flows through the city. The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO; ) is an organization of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Dosan Seowon
Dosan Seowon () was established in 1574 in what is present day Andong, South Korea, in memory of and four years after the death of Korean Confucian scholar Yi Hwang by some of his disciples and other Korean Confucian authorities. Yi Hwang had retired to the location in 1549 and begun construction on the facility, a private Korean Confucian academy offering instruction in the classics and honouring the sages with regular memorial rites. Like other Korean Confucian academies, Dosan Seowon serves two purposes: education and commemoration. The site was well known in Korea as one of the leading academies and was home to the Toegye School of Thought for over 400 years. Although the educational function of the facility has long since ceased, the commemorative ceremonies have been and are still held twice a year. March 2025 South Korea Wildfires
From March 21 until May 15, 2025, South Korea had experienced a severe wildfire outbreak involving more than 20 separate blazes occurring simultaneously across the country. The disaster had killed 32 people, including three firefighters and one government employee, and has led to the displacement of more than 37,000 people. The first significant fire occurred in Sancheong County, followed by the most significant fire in Uiseong County, prompting widespread evacuations and mobilizing extensive firefighting resources. Sukjong (; 7 October 1661 – 12 July 1720), personal name Yi Sun (), was the 19th monarch of the Joseon dynasty of Korea.
