Mount Allison Mounties Football
The Mount Allison Mounties football team represents Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick in the sport of Canadian football in U Sports. The Mounties program has been in continuous operation since 1955 when they played an exhibition schedule and then officially joined the New Brunswick Football League (NBFL) in 1956. The football team was an inaugural member of the Maritime Intercollegiate Football League (MIFL), which was a precursor to the current sporting association, Atlantic University Sport. The team has twice appeared in the Vanier Cup, once in 1984, and again in 1991, losing both times. The Mounties have won six conference championships in 14 appearances, including four straight from 2013 to 2016. Only one Mounties player has won the Hec Crighton Trophy, Canadian Football Hall of Fame member, Éric Lapointe, who won the award twice and has since had his number retired by the program. An offensive coordinator (OC) is a Coach (sport), coach responsible for a gridiron football team's offense (American football), offense. Generally, the offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator represent the second level of coaching structure, with the head coach being the first level. The primary role of the offensive coordinator is managing the roster of offensive players, overseeing the assistant coaches, developing the American football strategy#Offensive strategy, offensive game plan, and Play calling, calling plays for the offense during the game (though some offensive-minded head coaches may hold play-calling duties instead). Hec Crighton Trophy
The Hec Crighton Trophy (sometimes referred to as the Hec Crighton Award) is awarded annually to the most outstanding Canadian football player in U Sports. The trophy is named after Hec Crighton who was a former teacher, coach, referee, and the author of the Official Football Rule Book as well as the U Sports Rule Book. It was first presented in 1967 by the board of directors of the Canadian College Bowl. It is the Canadian equivalent to the American NCAA Heisman Trophy. The Western Mustangs has produced the most Hec Crighton winners with seven as well as the most individual winners with six ( Tim Tindale won the award twice). Chris Flynn has won the Hec Crighton Trophy three times, consecutively, while no other player has won the award more than twice. 2000 CIAU Football Season
The 2000 CIAU football season began on September 2, 2000, and concluded with the 36th Vanier Cup national championship on December 2 at the SkyDome in Toronto, Ontario, with the Ottawa Gee-Gees winning their second championship. Twenty-four universities across Canada competed in CIAU football this season, the highest level of amateur play in Canadian football, under the auspices of the Canadian Interuniversity Athletics Union (CIAU). Lennoxville, Quebec
Lennoxville () is an ''arrondissement'', or borough, of the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. Lennoxville is located at the confluence of the St. Francis and Massawippi Rivers approximately five kilometres south of downtown Sherbrooke. Lennoxville had previously existed as an independent city until January 1, 2002, when the city of Lennoxville, along with several other formerly independent towns and cities in the region, were merged with the city of Sherbrooke. Lucas Cormier
Lucas Cormier (born May 7, 2001) is a Canadian professional football defensive back for the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League (CFL). University career Cormier played U Sports football for the Mount Allison Mounties from 2019 to 2022. After sitting out in 2020 due to the cancelled 2020 U Sports football season, he played in 21 games with the team where he had 74.5 tackles and nine interceptions while being named an AUS All-Star in all three seasons that he played. Professional career Cormier was selected by the Ottawa Redblacks in the second round, 10th overall, of the 2023 CFL draft and became the second-highest drafted former Mountie player of all time, with Philippe Girard being drafted fifth overall in 1998 CFL draft. Mike Filer
Mike Filer (born May 6, 1990) is a former Canadian football offensive lineman. He played CIS football with the Mount Allison Mounties from 2008 to 2011. University career Filer committed to Mount Allison University in the spring of 2008, and by the third week of the regular season, was starting at right guard as a true freshman for the Mounties. He went on to become known as one of the greatest offensive linemen in school history, winning the team's Lineman of the Year award twice, being named a conference all-star twice, and in 2010 receiving second-team All-Canadian honours. In 2013, Filer was named to the Sackville Tribune-Post's All-Time All-Star squad at offensive line. Kyle Graves
Kyle Graves (born October 12, 1989) is a former professional Canadian football wide receiver who played for five years in the Canadian Football League. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Montreal Alouettes after being bypassed in the 2012 CFL Draft. He played quarterback and punter for the Acadia Axemen in Canadian Interuniversity Sport football from 2008 to 2012. He also spent time as the offensive coordinator for the Mount Allison Mounties of U Sports football. Acadia Axemen Football
The Acadia Axemen football team represents Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia in the sport of Canadian football in U Sports. The Axemen have been in continuous operation since 1957 when they played their first full season in the Nova Scotia Junior Canadian Football League. The program entered the top tier in Maritime football in 1962 and has been competing there ever since. The program saw its greatest success from 1975 to 1981 where they won six conference championships, appeared in four Vanier Cup national championships, and won two of those in 1979 and in 1981. Recently, the Axemen had their most success in the 2011, 2012, 2017, and 2019 seasons, when the teams finished first in the AUS and reached the Uteck Bowl all four years. Loney Bowl
The Jewett Trophy is a Canadian sports trophy, in honour of Dr. B. L. Jewett, presented annually to the winner of the Atlantic University Sport Football Conference of U Sports. Unlike the other three conference championship games, the game in which this trophy is awarded is not named for the trophy itself; it is known as the Loney Bowl. The winner of the Jewett Trophy goes on to play in either the Uteck Bowl or the Mitchell Bowl, depending on annual rotations.
