Moonloop
''Moonloop'' is an EP released by British psychedelic rock and progressive rock band Porcupine Tree, prior to the release of their third studio album, ''The Sky Moves Sideways''. It was released on vinyl and CD in the UK by Delerium Records. The EP was also released by C+S Records in the United States under the name of ''Stars Die'' and included the song "Always Never" from the ''Up The Downstair'' album as an extra track. ''Stars Die'' was not included on the original UK release of ''The Sky Moves Sideways'' but was included on the US version. The 2CD reissues of ''The Sky Moves Sideways'' have the track on the second disc. The artwork used on the cover of the EP was later used on a compilation album by the band titled '' Stars Die: The Delerium Years 1991–1997''. The Sky Moves Sideways
''The Sky Moves Sideways'' is the third studio album by British progressive rock band Porcupine Tree, first released in January 1995. Background ''The Sky Moves Sideways'' has been compared to Pink Floyd's ''Wish You Were Here'' because of their similar structure; since both albums have extended pieces at the beginning and end, which are the halves of a single song. The track "Moonloop" is an edited and overdubbed version of a 40-minute improvisation by the full live band recorded at the Doghouse studio on 28 June 1994; a section unused on the album featured a drum beat that would go on to form the basis of "Stars Die." The full length version was released as '' Transmission IV'' in 2001. Porcupine Tree
Porcupine Tree are an English rock band formed by musician Steven Wilson in 1987. During an initial career spanning more than twenty years, they earned critical acclaim from critics and fellow musicians, developed a cult following, and became an influence for new artists. The group carved out a career at a certain distance away from mainstream music, being described by publications such as ''Classic Rock'' and ''PopMatters'' as "the most important band you’d never heard of". The band began as a solo project for Wilson, who initially created all of the band's music himself. By late 1993, however, he wanted to work in a band environment, bringing on frequent collaborators Richard Barbieri as keyboardist, Colin Edwin as bassist, and Chris Maitland as drummer to form the first permanent lineup. Staircase Infinities
The following is a listing of officially released works by the English band Porcupine Tree. The band has released eleven major studio albums and 7 EPs, as well as many limited editions and revamped material. At the time Steven Wilson was going to sign to the Delerium label, he owned a lot of material recorded during the mid- and later '80s that he had recorded subsequently on three demo tapes - '' Tarquin's Seaweed Farm'', '' Love, Death & Mussolini'' and ''The Nostalgia Factory''. He sent copies of those tapes to people he felt would be interested in the recordings, asking them to spread the word. Delerium originally intended to release all of that material in a double debut album, but Wilson decided to just pick the songs he considered the best ones. These songs were mastered to make Porcupine Tree's first studio album, ''On the Sunday of Life...'' Delerium Records
Delerium Records was a British independent record label, that specialised in psychedelic music and which existed from 1991 to 2003, and was notable in promoting the careers of bands including Porcupine Tree, Ozric Tentacles, Kava Kava, Mandragora, Sons of Selina and Moom and for starting the Freak Emporium and Molten Records. Foundation Founded in 1991 by Richard Allen and Ivor Trueman in Chalfont St Peter in Buckinghamshire, England, Delerium Records was originally set up to provide the free 7" records that were given away with the ''Freakbeat'' fanzine before it evolved into a label to promote new psychedelic music. Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape
''Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape'' is a compilation album by British progressive rock band Porcupine Tree (at that time a pseudonym for private solo projects by Steven Wilson but later a fully fledged band in its own right). It is a compilation of the band's initial three tapes, '' Tarquin's Seaweed Farm'', '' Love, Death & Mussolini'' and ''The Nostalgia Factory''. It consists of the rest of the music from the tapes that was not included in the band's first studio album '' On the Sunday of Life...'' and a previously unreleased track "An Empty Box". The album was first released in 1994 as a limited run of 2,500 CD copies. In 2000, Gates of Dawn re-released the album as a double LP edition pressed on yellow vinyl, limited to 1000 copies, and on black vinyl up to 150 copies. 300 extra copies were pressed on green vinyl in 2005. Chris Maitland
Chris Maitland (born 13 May 1964) is an English drummer. Maitland was born in Cambridge, England. After being the drummer for No-Man on their Autumn 1993 tour (and playing on two tracks on their '' Flowermouth'' album), Maitland was asked by the band's Steven Wilson to join his other main project, the progressive rock band Porcupine Tree. He remained the band's drummer until February 2002, when he was dismissed and replaced by Gavin Harrison. He played on the debut album by Blackfield in 2003, sharing drumming duties with Gavin Harrison. Harrison has described Maitland as a great drummer. Between 2004 and 2005, Maitland was a member of the progressive rock supergroup Kino. Throughout his career, Maitland has been involved with many West End musicals, and from 2005 onwards, he has been playing drums on the ''Mamma Mia!'' International Tour. Colin Edwin
Colin Edwin is an Australian musician, specialising in fretted and fretless bass guitar, double bass and guimbri. Edwin first came to public attention as a member of the British progressive rock band Porcupine Tree, in which he was bass player from 1993 to 2011. Currently, Edwin is a member of Ex-Wise Heads, a long running collaboration with multi instrumentalist Geoff Leigh which mixes ethnic, ambient, and post-modern influences. He is also a member of metal-influenced project Random Noise Generator, and the bands Metallic Taste of Blood and progressive metal act O.R.k., as well as participating in numerous collaborations and releasing solo work. ''Up the Downstair'' is the second studio album by British progressive rock band Porcupine Tree, first released in June 1993. It was originally intended to be a double album set including the song "Voyage 34", which was instead released as a single in 1992, and other material that ended up on the ''Staircase Infinities'' EP (1994). In 2005, it was partially re-recorded, fully re-mixed, remastered and re-released along with the ''Staircase Infinities'' EP as a double album. The re-release contains a new mix by Steven Wilson, along with recorded drums by Gavin Harrison that replace the electronic drums of the original version. Another re-release on double vinyl was pressed on 14 August 2008 on Kscope records. This is identical to the 2005 release, except it is printed on coloured vinyl and the ''Staircase Infinities'' disc contains the song "Phantoms".
