Monteverdi was a Switzerland, Swiss brand of luxury cars created in 1967 by Peter Monteverdi (1934–1998) and based in Binningen, Switzerland, Binningen on the southern edge of Basel, Switzerland. History Peter Monteverdi, a descendant of composer Claudio Monteverdi, first made his name as a racecar driver. During the late 1950s and early 1960s, he also built, sold, and raced a number of "specials" called MBM (automobile), MBM, while at the same time developing the motor vehicle repair business founded by his father into a major dealership handling Ferrari, BMW, and Lancia brands. The relationship with Ferrari ended in 1963 when Enzo Ferrari demanded that Monteverdi pay up front for a shipment of 100 cars, which Monteverdi refused to agree to. Peter Monteverdi (7 June 1934 – 4 July 1998) was a Swiss people, Swiss carmaker and creator of the car brand ''Monteverdi (car), Monteverdi''. At the beginning of his career, Monteverdi was a automobile salesperson, car salesman. His father ran a garage and truck business, which Peter used as his initial inspiration. He built his Monteverdi Special in 1952 using the remains of a wrecked 1949 Fiat. It is now on display at the Swiss Transport Museum in Lucerne. In 1957 he acquired the Swiss franchise for Ferrari, subsequently becoming Swiss importer for other international prestige brands including List of Rolls-Royce motor cars, Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Monteverdi Sierra
The Monteverdi Sierra is a Swiss luxury car produced by Monteverdi based on the underpinnings of the Dodge Aspen and Plymouth Volare. From 1977 to 1980, around 20 cars were built. History The Sierras were essentially reskinned Dodge Aspens and Plymouth Volares, although the two convertible versions were based on the Dodge Diplomat. The coachwork was done by the Italian coach-building firm Carrozzeria Fissore, where they were given new front and rear styling, custom Italian leather interiors, custom gauge clusters, and a custom console. Monteverdi Safari
The Monteverdi Safari is a Swiss luxury SUV first presented by Peter Monteverdi in 1976. It entered into production in 1977. Production came to an end in 1982, after production of the International Scout (upon which the Safari was based and with which it shared many parts) came to an end. There was also a lower-priced version called the Sahara, which retained the Scout's original bodywork with some modifications. Monteverdi Hai 450
The Monteverdi Hai 450 SS was a mid-engined prototype, an attempt to create a full sports car complementing the company's High Speed line. It was intended to be a direct competitor to the top of the list super sports cars of Lamborghini, Ferrari and Maserati. History A magenta Hai 450 SS prototype debuted at the 1970 Geneva Auto Show. It had a V8 from Chrysler positioned behind the two front seats. It took its name from the output of the engine, and the German word for shark, Hai. The body was presumably designed by Trevor Fiore, of Carrozzeria Fissore, although some sources credit Pietro Frua. The Monteverdi Palm Beach is a concept car built by Monteverdi (automobile), Monteverdi in March, 1975 on a shortened Monteverdi High Speed, Monteverdi High Speed 375C chassis. The Triumph TR6 is a sports car that was built by the Triumph Motor Company of England. While production began several months earlier, the TR6 was officially introduced in January as a 1969 model year vehicle. The last TR6 was produced on 20 July 1976. Carrozzeria Fissore was an Italian coachbuilder located in Savigliano, near Turin (Piedmont). History The firm was founded in by the brothers Antonio, Bernardo, Giovanni, and Costanzo Fissore. Originally they built horsecarts and only later expanded into repairing automobiles and trucks. In 1936 Bernardo took the reins and began constructing special bodies for automobiles, funeral vehicles, mail cars, and small buses. During World War II, Fissore built military vehicles. Claudio Giovanni Antonio Monteverdi (baptized 15 May 1567 – 29 November 1643) was an Italian composer, choirmaster and string player. A composer of both secular and sacred music, and a pioneer in the development of opera, he is considered a crucial transitional figure between the Renaissance and Baroque periods of music history.
