Napier Shootings
The Napier shootings (also called the Napier siege by the New Zealand media) took place on 7 May 2009 in Napier, New Zealand. At around 9.30 am, Jan Molenaar fired on New Zealand Police, police officers executing a cannabis (drug), cannabis search warrant at his house at 41 Chaucer Road, killing Senior Constable Len Snee and seriously injuring senior constables Bruce Miller and Grant Diver. A neighbour attempting to assist the police was also shot. Over 100 police officers, including Armed Offenders Squad and Special Tactics Group members, were brought in to contain the gunman, who was identified as a former territorial soldier. A siege lasting over 40 hours developed, during which officers made repeated attempts under fire to retrieve the body of the slain officer. Joseph Pieter Anne Willem Molenaar (born 20 September 1945) is a Dutch cricket umpire whose international career has spanned from the early 1980s through to the early 2010s. Molenaar first umpired an international match in 1983, when he officiated a match between the Dutch and Irish women's teams at the one-off Centenary Tournament in Utrecht. Dee Molenaar (June 21, 1918 – January 19, 2020) was an American mountaineer, author and artist. He is best known as the author of ''The Challenge of Rainier'', first published in 1971 and considered the definitive work on the climbing history of Mount Rainier. Biography Molenaar was born in Los Angeles, California, to Dutch immigrant parents, Marina (van Paasschen) and Peter Molenaar. During World War II, he served as a photographer in the U.S. Coast Guard in the Aleutian Islands and western Pacific. In 1950, he earned a BSc degree in geology at the University of Washington, and then served as civilian adviser at Camp Hale and the Mountain Warfare Training Center. Molenaar worked as a park ranger and mountain guide in Mount Rainier National Park, climbing the mountain over 50 times as a guide and on personal trips, via more than a dozen different routes including three first ascents. Robert Molenaar (born 27 February 1969) is a Dutch professional football coach and former player who is the head coach of Eerste Divisie club NAC Breda. He played as a centre-back for FC Volendam, Leeds United, Bradford City and RBC Roosendaal. Playing career Molenaar was born in Zaandam, North Holland. He was signed for Leeds United by the then manager George Graham from FC Volendam for £1,000,000 in January 1997 to try to shore up the defence. He became a regular in the side until the end of the 1996–97 season. In the 1997–98 season however his performances were not up to scratch and he fell down the pecking order playing around half the matches. Hillie Molenaar (born 22 May 1945, Sneek) is a Dutch documentary film director. She left school at 15 and worked as a cleaner, waitress, and bookkeeper before finding her niche as a documentary filmmaker in 1974 when, at the age of 29, she made her first film ''Protest Garden''. She was assistant to the legendary Joris Ivens before she formed Molenwiek Film with Joop van Wijk in 1978.
