Mody Road
Mody Road () is a street in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Location Mody Road starts at Nathan Road to the west, crosses Chatham Road#Chatham Road South, Chatham Road South and ends at Science Museum Road to the northeast. History The road was built in 1887 as an unnamed path linking Nathan Road and Chatham Road, about the site of the former Tsim Sha Tsui Bay. In March 1909, the road was given its current name in honour of Sir Hormusjee Naorojee Mody, a successful Indian Parsi businessman in Hong Kong for his support in founding the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University, along his other contributions to Hong Kong. In the 1970s, Tsim Sha Tsui East was built on reclaimed land over Hung Hom Bay. Mody Road was then extended east to its present-day end at Science Museum Road, but this new road was called Ching Yee Road. Tsim Sha Tsui ( zh, c=尖沙咀), often abbreviated as TST, is an list of areas of Hong Kong, area in southern Kowloon, Hong Kong. The area is administratively part of the Yau Tsim Mong District. Nathan Road
Nathan Road () is the main thoroughfare in Kowloon, Hong Kong, aligned south–north from Tsim Sha Tsui to Sham Shui Po. It is lined with shops and restaurants and throngs with visitors, and was known in the post–World War II years as the Golden Mile, a name that is now rarely used. Chatham Road
Chatham Road South ( Chinese: 漆咸道南) and Chatham Road North ( Chinese: 漆咸道北) are two continuous roads extending from Tsim Sha Tsui to Hung Hom in Kowloon, Hong Kong. The road originally ran from Signal Hill to Hung Hom, under No. 12 Hill by the side of Hung Hom Bay. It was later extended through Lo Lung Hang to the southern end of To Kwa Wan, which makes up Chatham Road North. Hormusjee Naorojee Mody
Sir Hormusjee Naorojee Mody (12 October 1838 – 16 June 1911) was an Indian Parsi businessman in Hong Kong. He lived in Hong Kong for 50 years, during which he worked for the colony and founded the University of Hong Kong. Biography He was born in Bombay and moved to Hong Kong around 1860. At the time there was a large community of Parsi merchants based in Hong Kong, including Dorabjee Naorojee Mithaiwala, who founded the Star Ferry and Jehangir Hormujee Ruttonjee who helped establish the Hong Kong Ruttonjee Sanatorium. Hung Hom Bay
Hung Hom Bay was a bay in Victoria Harbour, between Tsim Sha Tsui and Hung Hom in the southeast of Kowloon Peninsula, Hong Kong. Since 1994, parts of the bay were reclaimed, and by 2019 it had been completely extinguished. All of present-day Tsim Sha Tsui East and Hung Hom station on the MTR as well as the Hung Hom Ferry Pier are on land reclaimed from the bay. The reclamation also buried several rocks, including Rumsey Rock. The bay once came inland as far as the present-day interchange of the West Kowloon Corridor and the Hung Hom Bypass. Tsim Sha Tsui Station
Tsim Sha Tsui is an MTR station on the . The station, originally opened on 16 December 1979 on the , serves the area of Tsim Sha Tsui. East Tsim Sha Tsui station on the , which opened on 24 October 2004, is connected to this station by underground pedestrian passages. The two stations serve as an interchange point between the Tsuen Wan and Tuen Ma lines. History The station was built underneath Nathan Road in the late 1970s. The site of Exit A1 was once the vehicular entrance to Kowloon Park, which was relocated to Haiphong Road.
