Mobile (band)
Mobile is a Canadian alternative rock band from Montreal initially composed of Mathieu Joly (vocals), Christian Brais (guitar), Pierre-Marc Hamelin (drums), Dominic Viola (bass) and Frank Williamson (guitar). Their debut album, '' Tomorrow Starts Today'', was released in 2006. The band was also nominated for two Juno Awards in 2007 and went on to win the award for "New Group of the Year". Hamelin left the band and was replaced by Martin Lavallée. History Formation and early history (2000–2005) In 2000, Dominic Viola joined Moonraker, a rock band from Montreal started in 1997 by Brais, Hamelin, Joly and Williamson. After some initial success, including winning the CHOM L'Esprit in 2001, the band moved to Toronto in 2003. Much is a Canadian English language discretionary specialty channel owned by BCE Inc. through its Bell Media subsidiary that airs programming aimed at teenagers and young adults. It is headquartered at 299 Queen Street West in what was once called the MuchMusic World Headquarters. This channel was originally launched on August 31, 1984 as MuchMusic, under the ownership of CHUM Limited, the owner of Citytv Toronto, though "Much" has been the branding most commonly seen on-air since 1997. In 2006, Bell Globemedia acquired MuchMusic and its parent CHUM Limited, but regulatory limits in media ownership forced CHUM to sell off the Citytv stations to avoid conflicts with CTV stations in the same markets. Daniel Victor (born September 20, 1979) is a Canadian recording artist and producer from Windsor, Ontario, best known for the collaborative music project Neverending White Lights, which features instrumentation performed mostly by Victor, with guest singers providing vocals for most of the songs. Early life Victor was born in Canada to an Italian father and Argentinian mother, and raised in southern Ontario. His father was a musician and performer, and exposed him to music from an early age. He began studying the piano at age six, under the direction of nuns at a local conservatory. After five years, he quit piano lessons to play by ear and compose freely. ''Tales from the City'' is the second studio album by Canadian alternative rock band Mobile. It was released on October 7, 2008, in Canada. The debut single from the album, "The Killer", was released on July 1, 2008. The album was written and recorded in late 2007 and early 2008. The album's sound has some differences than '' Tomorrow Starts Today'', Mobile's debut album. The songs in this album mesh together better than the previous album, for one. In July 2007 Christian's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and some of the music in this album was inspired by that event. According to Mat the album "will show a different side of Mobile". The opening track of ''Tales from the City'', "Daylight Breaks", was actually written in 2000 and was not recorded until this album.
