Minus-One Recordings
In the Philippines, the Minus-One (commonly, albeit improperly, spelled "minus one" without the hyphen) is a variant mix of a multi-track recording, wherein the lead vocal track of a song is muted for further use. In the Philippine recording industry of the 1980s, during the heyday of vinyl records, this variant was released as the "flip side" of a commercial song's 7-inch single, but generally never a part of the Long Playing album containing the full-featured song. Succinctly, a B-side selection became referred to as "minus-one" because the lead vocal track is subtracted from the A-Side song's original mix. The Minus-One is the patented name of the "Sing-Along System" karaoke machine invented by Filipino business executive Roberto del Rosario in 1975. A promotional recording, promo, or plug copy is an audio or video recording distributed free, usually in order to promote a recording that is or soon will be commercially available. The Dawn (band)
The Dawn is a Filipino rock band which first achieved commercial success during the late 1980s in the Philippines. The band broke up in 1995 with lead vocalist Jett Pangan forming another band, the Jett Pangan Group. The Dawn reunited in late 1999. The Dawn is considered the "longest-lived and most prolific rock band in the Philippines". Enveloped Ideas (song)
"Enveloped Ideas" is the debut single by Filipino rock/new wave band the Dawn, from their 1987 eponymous debut album. The song was written by guitarist Teddy Diaz and C. Fineza, and produced by Jose Mari Gonzales. It was engineered by Oscar Mallari, and mixed by Joseph Roxas and Bob Guzman. Background "Enveloped Ideas" is the band's signature song. The lyrics in the first verse are: "Trying pointlessly to understand, having nothing to say, just shadows, what remained boxed inside, this is what I call my enveloped ideas". The independently released single was initially played as a demo at the Manila-based radio station DWXB. Catalog Number (music)
A catalog number is an identification number assigned to a music release by a record label. Catalog numbers on music releases goes back to the early 20th century, around the same time as the Phonograph record#78 rpm materials, 10" shellac records. Many catalog numbers were similar to the last digits of the barcode of the release, and were often followed by a format code, a single digit defining the physical music format the recording is pressed on. Most labels placed a format code at the end of the catalog number to differentiate the release from other formats it is released on, all the while retaining the same catalog number or another close to it. However, some labels, such as Ariola, Ariola Records, changed the first few digits in their catalog number instead of using a format code on either the catalog number or the barcode. Video CD (abbreviated as VCD, and also known as Compact Disc Digital Video), (not to be confused with CD Video which is a type of Laserdisc) is a home video format and the first format for distributing films on standard optical discs. The format was widely adopted in all of Asia (except for Japan and South Korea), superseding the VHS and Betamax systems in those regions until DVD-Video became more affordable in the 2000s. Vicor Music Corporation is a Filipino record label. The name is a combination of the founders' first names. It is currently owned by Viva Music Group, a subsidiary of Viva Communications. History Vicor was found by cousins Vic del Rosario and Orly Ilacad in 1966. They bought a small office in a building along Raon. Its first talent was Orly's band Orly and The Ramrods.
