Mimetes
''Mimetes'', the pagoda, is a genus of evergreen shrubs or small trees high, with thirteen species assigned to the family Proteaceae. This genus, as with other proteas, is popular with nectarivorous birds such as the Cape sugarbird and several sunbird species. All species of ''Mimetes'' are endemic to the Cape Floristic Region of South Africa. Description The thirteen species currently assigned to the genus ''Mimetes'' are evergreen, low shrubs to small trees of high. Its leaves lack stipules, are set alternately along the branches, without a leaf stalk, at an upward angle or more or less overlapping, long inverted egg-shaped, oval or long diamond-shaped, long and wide, with an entire margin, thickened at the tip and often with mostly three teeth clustered close together. Mimetes Cucullatus
''Mimetes cucullatus'' is an evergreen shrub with several, mostly not branching, upright stems of 1–2 m (3–7 ft) high, that has been assigned to the family Proteaceae. It is the most widespread and most common pagoda species that can cope with a relatively large range of environmental circumstances. It is known under several names including common pagoda in English and rooistompie in Afrikaans. Description ''Mimetes cucullatus'' is an evergreen, upright shrub of 1–2 m (3–7 ft) high, that has a firm woody tuber in the ground, from which several stems rise. Proteaceae
The Proteaceae form a family (biology), family of flowering plants predominantly distributed in the Southern Hemisphere. The family comprises 83 genus, genera with about 1,660 known species. Australia and South Africa have the greatest concentrations of diversity. Together with the Platanaceae (plane trees), Nelumbonaceae (the sacred lotus) and in the recent APG IV system the Sabiaceae, they make up the order Proteales. William Hooker (botanical Illustrator)
William Hooker (1779–1832) was a Great Britain, British illustrator of natural history. He studied under Franz Bauer (1758–1840), becoming the official artist of the Royal Horticultural Society from 1812 until retirement in 1820, whose publications he illustrated. His paintings of fruit were particularly appreciated. Hooker also worked on the ''Oriental Memoirs'' of James Forbes (botanist), James Forbes and ''The Paradisus Londinensis'', with descriptions by Richard Anthony Salisbury (1761–1829).
