Miles Glacier is a -long glacier in the U.S. state of Alaska. It flows west to its terminus at Miles Lake, north of Katalla. It was named in 1885 after U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Nelson A. Chugach Census Area, Alaska
Chugach Census Area is a census area located in the state of Alaska, United States. It is part of the Unorganized Borough and therefore has no seat of government. On January 2, 2019, it was split from the Valdez–Cordova Census Area (of which it claims to be the successor), along with neighboring Copper River Census Area. As of the 2020 census, the census area had a population of 7,102; its largest communities are the cities of Valdez and Cordova. Glacier
A glacier (; or ) is a persistent body of dense ice, a form of rock, that is constantly moving downhill under its own weight. A glacier forms where the accumulation of snow exceeds its ablation over many years, often centuries. Alaska

Miles Lake is a long glacial lake in the U.S. state of Alaska. It is located in the valley of the Copper River, which pools to create it. The lake includes the terminus of Miles Glacier, north of Katalla, Chugach Mountains, and flows into the lower Copper River (Alaska). Katalla, Alaska
Katalla (pronounced ''KA-tell-ah'', sometimes spelled Catalla) is a ghost town in the Valdez-Cordova Census Area in the U.S. state of Alaska, southeast of Cordova. The name of this town was sometimes spelled Catalla. It is now abandoned. Geography Katalla is located within the Chugach National Forest near Controller Bay and the Bering River. History Katalla was at the center of the now-abandoned Katalla oil field. This was the first discovery of commercial quantities of oil in Alaska (1902). The town reportedly had a population of 5,000 in 1907-1908. This was the result of the announcement that the Copper River and Northwestern Railway (CR&NW) was going to use the town's location as its access to the Pacific Ocean and the Bering River coal fields. Violent storms in the fall of 1907 destroyed the jetty being built and it was decided to move the railroad's terminus to nearby Cordova.
