Mile Run is a tributary of the Raritan River in New Brunswick, New Jersey, New Brunswick, New Jersey, in the United States. Its name is derived from the distance early surveyors estimated it was on the historic King's Highway, New Jersey Route 27, Route 27, from the Raritan River crossing. Other streams, such as the Six Mile Run (New Jersey), Six Mile Run and the Nine Mile Run (New Jersey), Nine Mile Run are named similarly. Raritan River is a major river of New Jersey. Its watershed drains much of the mountainous area of the central part of the state, emptying into the Raritan Bay on the Atlantic Ocean. History Geologists assert that the lower Raritan provided the course of the mouth of the Hudson River approximately 6,000 years ago. Following the end of the last ice age, the Narrows had not yet been formed and the Hudson flowed along the Watchung Mountains to present-day Bound Brook, then followed the course of the Raritan eastward into Lower New York Bay. Route 27 is a state highway in New Jersey, United States. It runs from U.S. Route 206 (US 206) in Princeton, Mercer County northeast to an interchange with Route 21 (McCarter Highway) and Broad Street in Newark, Essex County. Six Mile Run is a tributary of the Millstone River that drains a large area in central Franklin Township in Somerset County and as well western portions of North Brunswick and South Brunswick Townships in Middlesex County, New Jersey in the United States. Name Six Mile Run derives its name (along with other area streams including Mile Run, Three Mile Run, Nine Mile Run, and Ten Mile Run) from the distance early surveyors estimated it was from the point where the historic King's Highway (now Rt. 27) left the Raritan River at New Brunswick to the point the roadway crossed the stream. Nine Mile Run, known as Ninemile Run according to the USGS GNIS, is a moderately large tributary of the Six Mile Run, one of the branches of the Millstone River, in central New Jersey in the United States. Course The official source of the Nine Mile Run is at . It is found between Sand Hill Rd and Old Beekman Rd in Kendall Park, South Brunswick. Another more visible source, although it is not the official source, is a long narrow marsh beside Sand Hills Road across from the intersection of Stillwell Road and Sand Hills Road. The stream flows north from the source through a housing development and intersects Route 27 nine miles from where the highway crosses the Raritan River in New Brunswick, hence its name.
