Milanese Lace
Milanese bobbin lace is a textile used as a fashion accessory or a decorative trim, first becoming popular in the 17th and 18th centuries in Milan. Lacemaking was an important economic activity in Northern Italy, besides touching on social status matters as well as being a culturally significant art form. The earliest versions of the lace consisted of the tape (or braid) mostly filling the space. Typical characteristics of Milanese bobbin lace are scrolls made with curving clothwork tapes and floral motifs, and sometimes also consisting of human or animal figures. Sometimes needle lace techniques were combined with the bobbin lace pieces to create the final product. The lace eventually was made in parts, and joined by bridges or filled in with mesh grounds between existing pattern motifs. Flounce (fabric)
In sewing and dressmaking, a ruffle, frill, or furbelow is a strip of fabric, lace or ribbon tightly gathered or pleated on one edge and applied to a garment, bedding, or other textile as a form of trimming. Ruffles can be made from a single layer of fabric (which may need a hem) or a doubled layer. Plain ruffles are usually cut on the straight grain. Joseph (Genesis)
Joseph (; ) is an important Hebrews, Hebrew figure in the Bible's Book of Genesis. He was the first of the two sons of Jacob and Rachel (Jacob's twelfth named child and eleventh son). Russian Lace
Russian lace is a bobbin tape lace. The tape is made with bobbins at the same time as the rest of the lace, curving back on itself, and joined using a crochet hook. It was made in Russia, but similar laces made elsewhere are also called Russian lace. The designs of Russian lace are of abstract form. The narrow tapes or trails follow a maze-like path through deep scallops to merge again and wander into the next. Idrija Lace
Idrija lace is a bobbin tape lace, native to Slovenia, and plays an important part in the Slovenian cultural heritage. The lace was named after the town of Idrija, the main and oldest Slovenian lacemaking center where Idrija lace has been made for centuries and where the renowned Idrija Lace School is located and continually operates since 1876. On August 10, 2000, Idrija lace was registered under protected geographical indication by the Slovenian Intellectual Property Office in Ljubljana. Moreover, bobbin lacemaking in Slovenia was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2018.
