Mikhail Kavelashvili
Mikheil Kavelashvili ( ka, მიხეილ ყაველაშვილი ; born 22 July 1971) is a Georgian politician and former professional footballer who was sworn in as the sixth president of Georgia on 29 December 2024. His election, the first through an electoral college after constitutional changes in 2017, is being disputed by the Georgian opposition, as well as by significant parts of the Western community. He was the sole candidate for the presidency for the first time in Georgia's history because of the opposition boycott. As a football player, he was a striker who played in the English Premier League for Manchester City and in the Swiss Super League for a range of clubs. FC Dinamo Tbilisi ( ka, დინამო თბილისი, ) is a Georgian professional football club based in Tbilisi that competes in the Erovnuli Liga, the top flight of Georgian football. Dinamo Tbilisi was one of the most prominent clubs in Soviet football and a major contender in the Soviet Top League almost immediately after it was established in 1936. The club was then part of one of the leading sport societies in the Soviet Union, the All-Union Dynamo sports society which had several other divisions besides football and was sponsored by the Soviet Ministry of Internal Affairs. In Georgia, the Electoral Assembly or the Electoral College ( ka, საარჩევნო კოლეგია, tr) is the group of presidential electors that is formed every five years during the presidential election for the purpose of voting for the president.
