Middleton Creek (Queensland)
Middleton is a rural locality in the Shire of Winton, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Middleton had a population of 45 people. Geography The locality is on the Kennedy Developmental Road, northwest of the state capital Brisbane and southeast of the regional centre of Mount Isa. Lying within the locality is the former site of Collingwood (), a town that lost out in regional competition to its neighbour, Winton. It had been given up by about 1900. The region in which Middleton lies is a circular zone that has been shown to be a crustal anomaly. Scientists from Geoscience Australia believe that it is an impact structure formed by an asteroid that struck the area about 300 million years ago. Final proof of this as the anomaly's genesis has not yet been found. History European exploration of the Middleton area began with explorer John McKinlay's expedition in search of the missing Burke and Wills expedition in 1862. The Loddon River, an inland river of the northcentral catchment, part of the Murray-Darling basin, is located in the lower Riverina bioregion and Central Highlands and Loddon Mallee regions of the Australian state of Victoria. The headwaters of the Loddon River rise on the northern slopes of the Great Dividing Range east of Daylesford and descend to flow north into the Little Murray River, near Swan Hill. The river is impounded by the Cairn Curran and Laanecoorie reservoirs. Location and features The Loddon River is the second longest river in Victoria after the Goulburn and, along with the Avoca River, drains a substantial part of central Victoria. The Englehart River is a river in Timiskaming District in northeastern Ontario, Canada. It is in the Saint Lawrence River drainage basin and is a right tributary of the Blanche River. Its watershed is about in size and the river is about long. Geography The Englehart River begins at Fallduck Lakes in Terry Township. It flows southeast, and after passing under Highway 66, it flow through a swampy river corridor with several oxbow lakes and backwater sloughs. The silty clay river banks have shrub thickets with some black ash and balsam poplar. The higher banks support stands of old growth white cedar and white spruce. The river enters Long Lake in the northwest and exits the lake in the southeast, heading east, passing over one of two dams and under Ontario Highway 573 at the community of Charlton (in the municipality of Charlton and Dack), then heads under Ontario Highway 560. The South Fork Eel River is the largest tributary of the Eel River in north-central California in the United States. The river flows north from Laytonville to Dyerville/Founders' Grove where it joins the Eel River. The South Fork drains a long and narrow portion of the Coast Range of California in parts of Mendocino and Humboldt counties. U.S. Route 101 follows the river for much of its length.
