Michael Shmerkin
Michael "Misha" Shmerkin (born 5 February 1970) is an Israeli former competitive figure skater. He is a two-time Skate Canada International silver medalist (1994 and 1995), 1993 Ondrej Nepela Memorial champion, and 1995 Skate Israel champion. He competed in the final segment at two Winter Olympics (1994, 1998), six World Championships, and four European Championships. He is currently a figure skating teacher/coach for many young adults and children . He is located in Brooklyn and Staten Island, New York. Career Early in his career, Shmerkin competed internationally for the Soviet Union, most notably at the 1984 World Junior Championships, where he placed fifth. Shmerkin moved with his family to Israel in 1991, and Shmerkin began representing his new country in international competition. Menorah (Temple)
The menorah (; he, מְנוֹרָה ''mənōrā'', ) is a seven-branched candelabrum that is described in the Hebrew Bible as having been used in the Tabernacle and in the Temple in Jerusalem. Since antiquity, it has served as a symbol of the Jewish people and Judaism in both the Land of Israel and the Diaspora; it is depicted on the Israeli national emblem. Israeli Figure Skating Championships
The Israeli Figure Skating Championships is a figure skating competition held annually to crown the national champions of Israel. Winners are given the title of National Champion. Over the years, the date of the competition has been moved for regional political reasons or for the lack of ice. Nationals are mostly held in the Canada Centre in Metulla. The levels of the nationals are senior, junior, novice, and age groups. The disciplines of competition are men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Skate Israel ( he, סקייט ישראל) was a senior-level international figure skating competition, held in Metulla, Israel. Medals were awarded in four disciplines: men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. First organized in 1995, Skate Israel was held annually through 2000. The Nepela Memorial ( sk, Memoriál Ondreja Nepelu), formerly known as the Ondrej Nepela Trophy in 2013–15 & 2017 and the Ondrej Nepela Memorial, is an annual senior-level international figure skating competition. The Prize of ''Moscow News'' (russian: Приз газеты «Московские новости»), also known as the Moscow Skate, Nouvelles de Moscou, and the Moscow News Trophy, was an international, senior-level figure skating competition held in the Soviet Union from 1966 to 1990 (excluding 1989).
