Michael Louis Samuels (14 September 1920 – 24 November 2010) was a British Ashkenazi historical linguist, responsible for the Historical Thesaurus of English. Michael Samuels is British television director, producer and writer. He directed '' Any Human Heart'' for which he won a BAFTA, and in 2018 he won an International Emmy for '' Man in an Orange Shirt''. He also won a Royal Television Society Award for '' The Curse of Steptoe''. Other works include '' The Falklands Play'', '' The Vice'', '' The Last Days of Lehman Brothers'', '' Mrs. Mandela'', '' The Fear'', '' Black Work'', and '' Close To Me''. Samuels directed '' The Windermere Children'', broadcast in the UK on the BBC on 27 January 2020, about the child refugees who survived the concentration camps and were taken to the English Lakes District in an attempt to rehabilitate them. The film won the Prix Europa Award for Best European Television Movie of the year 2020, and was nominated for a BAFTA in 2021. Michael Anthony Samuels (born 1939) is a non career appointee American Ambassador to Sierra Leone (1975-1979). Taylor soon left government service only to return as Deputy US Trade Representative and Ambassador to the GATT from early 1986 to mid-1989. Samuels graduated from Yale University in 1962 with an American Studies major. Desiring to teach in Africa but not feeling qualified, he attended a new program at Columbia University’s Teachers College where he earned a Masters Degree and class room experience in the British educational system. From there, he taught at a school in Northern Nigeria from 1962-1964.
