Michael Manson
Michael Manson (April 29, 1857 – July 11, 1932) was a Scottish-born farmer and political figure in British Columbia. He represented Comox from 1909 to 1916 and Mackenzie from 1924 to 1933 in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia as a Conservative. He was born in Pickigarth, Shetland Islands, the son of John Manson and Margaret Bain. He came to British Columbia in 1874. In 1879, Manson married Jane Renwick. He was a director of the Call Creek Oyster Company. Manson also served as a justice of the peace. From 1887 to 1895, he operated a trading post on Cortes Island with his brother John. He was defeated when he ran for reelection to the assembly in 1916. Manson died in Bella Coola at the age of 75. Bella Coola is a community in the Bella Coola Valley, in British Columbia, Canada. Cortes Island is an island in the Discovery Islands archipelago on the coast of British Columbia, Canada. The island is long, wide, and in area. Mansons Landing, British Columbia
Mansons Landing is an unincorporated community near the southern tip of Cortes Island, British Columbia, Canada. It was originally the location of the Cortez Island Post Office ic which opened April 1, 1893 with Michael Manson as postmaster, and closed December 1, 1898. Michael Manson was a Shetland Islander who maintainted a trading post along with his brother John from 1887 to 1895. He later represented to Comox riding in Victoria. The post office was re-opened on May 1, 1904. The name was adopted into the provincial gazette as a steamboat landing and settlement on April 6, 1950. The post office had been renamed Mansons Landing Post Office on July 9, 1941.
