Michael Lazarus
Michael Lazarus (born 1969) is an American painter. He has been working since the early 1990s. Career His first solo exhibition was in 1998 at Feature, Inc. Lazarus was represented by Feature until 2011, exhibiting alongside artists including B. Wurtz, Dike Blair, Jim Isermann, Tom Friedman, Lisa Beck, Takashi Murakami, and Lily van der Stokker. In 2000, he was one of the first 'alternative' artists to have a solo show in the "Gallery 2" program at Andrea Rosen Gallery. Lazarus has had solo exhibitions in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Montreal, Antwerp, and Amsterdam. In 2006 Lazarus' works were exhibited in conversation with Emory Douglas and Corita Kent in "That was then... This is now" at MoMA PS1. Lazarus has also worked as a collaborator in the group Assume Vivid Astro Focus, on two separate projects. Jim Isermann
Jim Isermann (born 1955, Kenosha, Wisconsin) is an American artist. He is based in Palm Springs and Guerneville, California. In 1977 he graduated from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and then received an MFA from CalArts in 1980. His artwork has focused on post-war industrial design and architecture. He has participated in numerous exhibitions in art galleries and museum, and has also created large scale commissioned projects utilizing industrial manufacturing processes. Tom Friedman (born 1965) is an American conceptual sculptor. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri and received a BFA in graphic illustration from Washington University in St. Louis (1988) and an MFA in sculpture from the University of Illinois at Chicago (1990.). Takashi Murakami
is a Japanese contemporary artist. He works in fine arts media (such as painting and sculpture) as well as commercial (such as fashion, merchandise, and animation) and is known for blurring the line between high and low arts as well as co aesthetic characteristics of the Japanese artistic tradition and the nature of postwar Japanese culture and society, and is also used for Murakami's artistic style and other Japanese artists he has influenced. Emory Douglas
Emory Douglas (born May 24, 1943) is an American graphic artist. He was a member of the Black Panther Party from 1967 until the Party disbanded in the 1980s. As a r''evolutionary artist'' and the ''Minister of Culture'' for the Black Panther Party, Douglas created iconography to represent black-American oppression. Early life and education Douglas was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and, at age eight, moved to San Francisco, California. At age 13, he was sentenced to 15 months at the Youth Training School in Ontario, California, where he worked in the juvenile correctional facility's printing shop and learned the basics of commercial printing. Corita Kent
Corita Kent (November 20, 1918 – September 18, 1986), born Frances Elizabeth Kent and also known as Sister Mary Corita Kent, was an American artist, designer and educator, and former religious sister. Key themes in her work included Christianity, and social justice. She was also a teacher at the Immaculate Heart College. Corita was born Frances Elizabeth Kent on November 20 in the year of 1918. At 18 years of age Kent entered the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart, which were known to be very progressive and welcomed creativity. Frances joined a teaching order, taking the name Sister Mary Corita. The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery is a part of Skidmore College and located in Saratoga Springs, New York.
