Michael Ainsworth
Michael Lionel Yeoward Ainsworth (13 May 1922 – 28 August 1978) was an English cricketer: a right-handed batsman who played his county cricket for Worcestershire County Cricket Club, Worcestershire but also appeared on a number of occasions for Combined Services cricket team, Combined Services and Free Foresters Cricket Club, Free Foresters. Born in Hooton, Cheshire, Hooton, near Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, Ainsworth made his first-class cricket, first-class debut for Combined Services against Surrey County Cricket Club, Surrey, in 1946 English cricket season, 1946; he also played against Worcestershire a fortnight later and made 50 not out at number nine. His next first-class games were not until 1948 English cricket season, 1948, when he joined Worcestershire and made 71 in his first innings, against Kent County Cricket Club, Kent. County Cap
In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps. Hillingdon
Hillingdon is an area of Uxbridge within the London Borough of Hillingdon, centred 14.2 miles (22.8 km) west of Charing Cross. It was an ancient parish in Middlesex that included the market town of Uxbridge. During the 1920s the civil parishes in England, civil parish bore Metro-land, a rapid, planned increase in population and housing, and was absorbed by Municipal Borough of Uxbridge, Uxbridge Urban District in 1929. It has formed part of Greater London since 1965. Simon Douglas-Pennant
Simon Douglas-Pennant, 7th Baron Penrhyn (born 28 June 1938), is a British nobleman. He is the current holder of the title of Baron Penrhyn – he succeeded his father Nigel's elder brother the 6th Baron, who died without male issue in 2003. He studied at Eton College and Clare College, Cambridge, where he represented the university at cricket from 1959 to 1961 as a left-arm opening bowler. Henry Calthorpe Blofeld (born 23 September 1939), nicknamed Blowers by Brian Johnston, is an English retired sports journalist, broadcaster and amateur ornithologist best known as a cricket commentator for '' Test Match Special'' on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra. He has established a reputation as a commentator with an accent, vocabulary and syntax that is quintessentially Old Etonian both in style and substance. Cambridge University Cricket Club
Cambridge University Cricket Club, established in 1820, is the representative cricket club for students of the University of Cambridge. The club was recognised as holding first-class cricket, first-class status until 2020. The university played List A cricket in 1972 and 1974 only. It has not played top-level Twenty20 cricket. With some 1,200 members, home matches are played at Fenner's. The club has three men's teams (Blues, Crusaders and the Colleges XI) and one women's team (from the incorporation of Cambridge University Women's Cricket Club (CUWCC) in 2000) which altogether play nearly 100 days of cricket each season. Oxford University Cricket Club
Oxford University Cricket Club (OUCC), which represents the University of Oxford, had held first-class status since 1827 when it made its debut in the inaugural University Match between OUCC and Cambridge University Cricket Club (CUCC). Following the 2021 University Match, OUCC lost its first-class status. It was classified as a List A team in 1973 only. Home fixtures are played at the University Parks slightly northeast of Oxford city centre. History The earliest reference to cricket at Oxford is in 1673.
