Mesa Community College
Mesa Community College (MCC) is a Public college, public community college in Mesa, Arizona. It is the largest of the 10 community colleges in the Maricopa County Community College District, the largest community college district in the United States in terms of enrollment. History MCC was launched by Mart Godinez in 1963 as an extension branch of Phoenix College and was located at 809 W. Main Street in Mesa. There were 330 students registered for classes the first semester at Mesa Extension on September 11, 1963. John Riggs was appointed as the first president. Mesa students voted Hokams as the nickname for their athletic teams in 1964. Capital funds from the bond election in 1964 enabled Mesa Community College to purchase 120 acres, with an option to purchase an adjoining 40 acres, for the new campus at Dobson and Southern Roads in Mesa. David Benedict
David Benedict is the athletic director at the University of Connecticut. Under his aegis, UConn won consecutive men's NCAA basketball championships in 2023 and 2024, and the women's championship in 2025. Early life and education Benedict is a native of Tempe, Arizona. Rod Gilbreath
Rodney Joe Gilbreath (born September 24, 1952) is a former Major League Baseball second baseman from 1972 to 1978 for the Atlanta Braves. Early life Rod Gilbreath attended Watkins High School in Laurel, Mississippi. After high school he enrolled in Jones County Junior College. Professional career Gilbreath was selected by Atlanta in the third round (69th overall) of the 1970 Major League Baseball Draft. David Christian Farnsworth (born July 16, 1951) is an American politician and a Republican member of the Arizona Senate representing District 10 since 2023. Ralph Dickenson
Ralph D. Dickenson (né Dick; born March 22, 1948) is a Canadian professional baseball player and coach. Career Dickenson graduated from Bellingham High School in Bellingham, Washington in 1966. Dickenson was drafted in the 30th round of the 1968 Major League Baseball draft by the San Francisco Giants out of Mesa Community College and the first round of the secondary phase of the 1969 draft by the Minnesota Twins out of Arizona State University. David S. Collins (born October 20, 1952) is an American former outfielder in Major League Baseball from to . Collins is one of three players to have made it to the major leagues who played for the Rapid City Post 22 American Legion baseball program in Rapid City, South Dakota. The other two are Kelvin Torve and Mark Ellis. All three were graduates of Stevens High School in Rapid City. Collins currently holds the Toronto Blue Jays single season stolen base record with 60 steals in 1984. Bryan Craig Caldwell (May 6, 1960 – January 3, 2015) was an American football defensive end in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Oilers. Michael Burton Brown (born March 5, 1970) is an American basketball coach who most recently served as the head coach for the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Brown was previously the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers, as well as an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors. Hubert "Hubie" Brooks (born September 24, 1956) is an American former professional baseball right fielder, third baseman, and shortstop. He played 15 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1980 to 1994 for the New York Mets, Montreal Expos, Los Angeles Dodgers, California Angels, and Kansas City Royals. Martin Glenn Barrett (born June 23, 1958) is an American former Major League Baseball second baseman who played for the Boston Red Sox (1982–1990) and San Diego Padres (1991).
