Franklin County Memorial Hall, also known simply as Memorial Hall, is an office building, multi-use facility, and memorial for war dead in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. The building is best-known today as the headquarters of Franklin County Public Health. Uses The building currently holds the offices of Franklin County Public Health (the county's health department), Franklin County Veterans Services, and still retains a war memorial. The building was built from 1905 to 1906 by local architect Frank Packard. The building features a 4,200-seat auditorium, which was the second largest in the United States behind Madison Square Gardens when it was completed. Broad Street is a major thoroughfare in Central Ohio, predominantly in Franklin County, Ohio, Franklin County and Columbus, Ohio, Columbus. Christopher Inn
The Christopher Inn was a hotel in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. The cylindrical mid-century modern hotel had 16 floors, 137 wedge-shaped rooms, and modern interiors for its time. It was constructed on the site of the Alfred Kelley mansion, which was disassembled to make way for the new building. The Christopher Inn operated from 1963 to 1988, when it was demolished. The site is now occupied by an 11-story office building constructed in 2001. History The Christopher Inn was built on the site of the Alfred Kelley mansion. Built in 1838 and used as a parochial school for nearby St. Joseph Cathedral in the early 1900s, the mansion was demolished around 1961, and its remains were scattered throughout the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. COSI (museum)
COSI (), officially the Center of Science and Industry, is a science museum and research center in Columbus, Ohio. COSI was opened to the public on 29 March 1964 and remained there for 35 years. In 1999, COSI was moved to a facility, designed by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki along a bend in the Scioto River in the Franklinton neighborhood. COSI features more than 300 interactive exhibits throughout themed exhibition areas. Until the COVID-19 pandemic, COSI operated the largest outreach education program of any science museum in the United States. Columbus Philharmonic Orchestra
The Columbus Philharmonic Orchestra was a symphony orchestra of the United States, located in Columbus, Ohio. Founded in 1941 and disbanded in 1949, the Columbus Philharmonic was the first professional symphony orchestra in Columbus and was a precursor to the present Columbus Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra's music director was the American conductor Izler Solomon. History The orchestra was founded in 1941 and presented concerts in Franklin County Memorial Hall (now the Franklin County Board of Elections building).
