Major-General Sir Charles Max Page KBE CB DSO (1882–1963) was a British surgeon. He was president of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland in 1946. Page was commissioned lieutenant in the Royal Army Medical Corps Special Reserve in 1910. He reached the rank of lieutenant-colonel in the First World War and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order in 1918. By 1943 he had reached the rank of major-general and was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) in 1945 for his services during the Second World War. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding valuable service in a wide range of useful activities. It comprises five classes of awards across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a Orders, decorations, and medals of the United Kingdom#Modern honours, knight if male or a dame (title), dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with the order, but are not members of it. The Royal College of Surgeons is an ancient college (a form of corporation) established in England to regulate the activity of surgeons. Derivative organisations survive in many present and former members of the Commonwealth. These organisations are now also responsible for training surgeons and setting their examinations. History The earliest form of the Royal College of Surgeons was the "Guild of Surgeons Within the City of London" founded in the 14th century. There was dispute between the surgeons and barber surgeons until an agreement was signed between them in 1493, giving the fellowship of surgeons the power of incorporation. The Guild of Barbers of Dublin received a Royal Charter of Henry VI in 1446, making it the earliest Royal Medical incorporation in Great Britain or Ireland. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by King George I of Great Britain, George I on 18 May 1725.
