We Are Scientists is a New York City-based rock music, rock band that formed in Berkeley, California, in 1999. It consists primarily of guitarist and vocalist Keith Murray and bass guitarist Chris Cain, with drummer Keith Carne joining the band in the studio and for live performances since 2013. The band have released eight studio albums, not including their early release ''Safety, Fun, and Learning (In That Order)'', which the band have gone on to describe as more of a rough draft, than a proper album. The band's breakthrough success came with their debut studio album, ''With Love and Squalor,'' which sold Music recording sales certification, 100,000 copies in the first six months. Berkeley ( ) is a city on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay in northern Alameda County, California, United States. It is named after the 18th-century Anglo-Irish bishop and philosopher George Berkeley. ''Barbara'' is the third studio album by indie rock band We Are Scientists, released (digitally and physically) in the UK on June 14, 2010. The release was supported by singles "Rules Don't Stop," released on April 5, 2010, and " Nice Guys," released June 7, 2010. Following the band's split from EMI/ Virgin in November 2009, the record was released by PIAS Recordings in the United Kingdom. Background and recording In March 2008, We Are Scientists released its second studio album '' Brain Thrust Mastery'' through EMI Records. It was a moderate commercial success, and charted at number eleven on the UK Albums Chart. Some critics dismissed the album as inconsistent and a let down when compared to the band's 2005 debut '' With Love and Squalor''.
