Mauritz Stiller
Mauritz Stiller (born Moshe Stiller, 17 July 1883 – 8 November 1928) was a Finnish film director of Jewish origin, best known for discovering Greta Garbo and bringing her to America. Stiller was a pioneer of the Swedish film industry, writing and directing many short films from 1912. When Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer invited him to Hollywood as a director, he arrived with his new discovery Greta Gustafsson, whose screen name Greta Garbo is believed to have been his suggestion. After frequent disagreements with studio executives at MGM and Paramount Pictures, Stiller returned to Sweden, where he died soon afterward. __NOTOC__ Mauritz von Wiktorin (13 August 1883 – 16 August 1956) was an Austrian general in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross of Nazi Germany. Wiktorin was discharged from the army on 30 November 1944 after the 20 July Plot. Military career Wiktorin served as an officer in the Austro-Hungarian army in the First World War. After the war, he transferred to the postwar Austrian army and served as a commander and general staff officer in various units. During his service in the Austrian General Staff, he was arrested and dismissed from the army in 1935 for unauthorized contacts with German authorities. Wiktorin was enthusiastic about the Anschluss, annexation of Austria. After the annexation, he was recalled into service and promoted to lieutenant-general of the army. Mauritz Rosenberg (1879–1941) was a Finnish politician who served as vice president and finance minister of the Terijoki government during the Finnish Democratic Republic. Biography Rosenberg was born in Turku in 1879. He worked as a locomotive driver and newspaper editor. Rosenberg was a member of the Finnish Communist Party. He was arrested and detained until 1934. Following his release he settled in the Soviet Union. In the period between 1 December 1939 and 12 March 1940 Rosenberg served as vice president and finance minister in the cabinet, known as Terijoki government, led by Otto Wille Kuusinen.
