María Ruiz Solás
María de la Cabeza Ruiz Solás (born 9 September, 1970 in Madrid) is a Spanish journalist, businesswoman and politician who is a member of the Congress of Deputies for Vox. Biography Solás was born in Madrid to a family of Andalusian origin and has three brothers. Her father was an engineer and her mother was a housewife. After leaving school, she studied journalism at the Universidad CEU San Pablo before working for a local newspaper. She later founded a publishing company with her husband focusing on publishing and distributing content in the auto sector and edited a local information magazine in her home municipality of Villaviciosa de Odón. Political career Solás has claimed that she was originally a supporter of the People's Party (PP) but joined Vox in 2015 due to being disappointed with the PP in government. The Congress of Deputies ( es, link=no, Congreso de los Diputados, italic=unset) is the lower house of the Cortes Generales, Spain's legislative branch. The Congress meets in the Palace of the Parliament () in Madrid. It has 350 members elected by constituencies (matching fifty Spanish provinces and two autonomous cities) by closed list proportional representation using the D'Hondt method. Deputies serve four-year terms. The presiding officer is the President of the Congress of Deputies, who is elected by the members thereof. It is the analogue to a speaker. In the Congress, MPs from the political parties, or groups of parties, form parliamentary groups. Groups must be formed by at least 15 deputies, but a group can also be formed with only five deputies if the parties got at least 5% of the nationwide vote, or 15% of the votes in the constituencies in which they ran. Madrid is one of the 52 constituencies ( es, circunscripciones) represented in the Congress of Deputies, the lower chamber of the Spanish parliament, the Cortes Generales. The constituency currently elects 36 deputies. Its boundaries correspond to those of the Spanish province of Madrid. The electoral system uses the D'Hondt method and a closed-list proportional representation, with a minimum threshold of three percent. Electoral system The constituency was created as per the Political Reform Act 1977 and was first contested in the 1977 general election.
