Marie Nilsson
Marie Nilsson (born 20 February 1964) is a Swedish trade union leader. Born in Stenungsund, in 1982, Nilsson became a technician for the chemical company Borealis. She was elected to the board of the Swedish Industrial Union in 2000. This became part of IF Metall in 2006, and Nilsson remained on the board. She was elected as vice-president of the union in 2012, for the first time becoming a full-time trade union official. She was subsequently elected to the board of the Swedish Social Democratic Party. In 2017, Nilsson was elected as president of IF Metall, the first woman to hold the post. She came to international notice in leading a dispute with Elon Musk and Tesla, Inc. over the role of unions in the Swedish economic model. Stenungsund () is a locality and the seat of Stenungsund Municipality, Västra Götaland County, Sweden with 9,987 inhabitants in 2010. The Swedish Industrial Union () was a trade union representing manufacturing workers in Sweden. It was formed on 23 April 1993, with the merger of the Swedish Factory Workers' Union and the Swedish Textile, Garment and Leather Workers' Union. Like both its predecessors, it affiliated to the Swedish Trade Union Confederation. On formation, the union had 88,965 members, but this fell in line with employment in the industries it covered, and by 2005, it had only 65,956 members. Industrifacket Metall (IF Metall) is a trade union in Sweden. It was formed in a 2006 merger between the Swedish Industrial Union (Industrifacket) and the Swedish Metalworkers' Union (Metall). Its roots in Metall trace back to 1888. IF Metall has a membership density of 80%. On formation, it had 337,712 members, but this fell steadily, to 241,951 in 2019. Jörg Hofmann (born 3 December 1955) is a German trade union leader. Born in Berglen, Oppelsbohm, Hofmann studied agriculture, then went to university to study economics. He found work as a researcher at the Institute for Industrial Management at the University of Hohenheim. In 1982, he moved to work for the trade union IG Metall as an expert on new technologies. In 1987, Hofmann became secretary of IG Metall's Stuttgart office, also establishing a new office in Dresden after the fall of the Berlin Wall. In 1999, he became the union's director for Baden-Württemberg, then vice-president of the union in 2013, and president in 2015.
