Maria Ângela Carrascalão
Maria Ângela Guterres Viegas Carrascalão (born 10 April 1951) is an East Timorese journalist, author, university teacher and former Minister of Justice (East Timor), Minister of Justice. She is a member of the Timorese Democratic Union ( (UDT)). Early life and education Carrascalão was born in Caitucoloa, Liquiçá, in the then Portuguese Timor, one of thirteen children of Manuel Viegas Carrascalão, a Portuguese exile who married a Timorese woman. Several of her siblings have similarly occupied high political positions. Carrascalão attended Dili Primary School and the 28 de Novembro Public Secondary School, Dr. Francisco Machado High School, Dili, graduating in 1970. Liquiçá Municipality
Liquiçá (, ) is one of the municipalities of East Timor, municipalities (formerly districts) of East Timor. Its capital is also called Liquiçá. Etymology The English language name of the municipality has been said to be a Portuguese approximation of the old name ''Liku Saen'', which means 'Pythonidae, python' in the local Tokodede language, or the corresponding portmanteau ''Likusaen''. Another theory points to the Tokodede expression ''Likis Aá'', meaning 'motion' or 'change', referring to an incident during the founding of the city of Vila de Liquiçá. After the Portuguese had chosen the settlement site, people started clearing the forest there and turning it into an open space. The Portuguese then asked the local people to tell them the name of the area. The local people did not understand the question, and so the Portuguese tried to communicate with gestures by moving their hands back and forth. Francisco Guterres
Francisco Guterres, popularly known as Lú-Olo (born 7 September 1954), is an East Timorese politician who served as 6th president of East Timor from 2017 to 2022. He is also the president of the political party Fretilin, and he was the first president of the National Parliament of East Timor from 2002 to 2007. As the Fretilin candidate, he stood in the 2007 presidential election and 2012 presidential election, but was defeated in the second round by independent candidates on both occasions. He also contested the 2017 presidential election, and with the support of former prime minister Xanana Gusmão and the CNRT, was elected the 6th president of East Timor. José Maria de Vasconcelos (born 10 October 1956), popularly known as Taur Matan Ruak (Tetum for "Two Sharp Eyes"), is an East Timorese politician who served as 9th prime minister of East Timor from 2018 to 2023.
