Margaret Winkler
Margaret J. Winkler Mintz (Winkler; April 22, 1895 – June 21, 1990) was a film studio executive, producer, distributor, and animator who was a major figure in silent animation history, having a crucial role in the histories of Max and Dave Fleischer, Pat Sullivan, Otto Messmer, and Walt Disney. She was the first woman to produce and distribute animated films. Winkler was portrayed in the feature film '' Walt Before Mickey''. Career Winkler began her career as the personal secretary of Harry Warner, one of the founders of Warner Brothers. The Laugh-O-Gram Studio (also called Laugh-O-Gram Studios) was an animation studio located on the second floor of the McConahay Building at 1127 East 31st in Kansas City, Missouri, that operated from June 28, 1921, to October 16, 1923. In Animation in the United States during the silent era, the early years of animation, the studio was home to many of the pioneers of animation, brought there by Walt Disney. ''Alice's Wonderland'' is a 1923 Walt Disney short silent film, produced in Kansas City, Missouri by Laugh-O-Gram Studio. The black-and-white short was the first in a series of Walt Disney's famous ''Alice Comedies'' and had a working title of ''Alice in Slumberland''. The film was never shown theatrically, but was instead shown to prospective film distributors. ''Out of the Inkwell'' is an American animated film series of the silent era. It was produced by Max Fleischer from 1918 to 1929 and was called ''The Inkwell Imps'' at the end of that period. History The series was the result of three short experimental films that Max Fleischer independently produced from 1914 to 1916 to demonstrate his invention, the rotoscope, a device consisting of a film projector and easel used to achieve realistic movement for animated cartoons. The rotoscope projected motion picture film through an opening in the easel, covered by a glass pane serving as a drawing surface. The image on the projected film was traced onto paper, advancing the film one frame at a time as each drawing was made. Fleischer Studios () was an American animation studio founded in 1929 by brothers Max and Dave Fleischer, who ran the pioneering company from its inception until its acquisition by Paramount Pictures in 1942, the parent company and the distributor of its films. In its prime, Fleischer Studios was a premier producer of animated cartoons for theaters, with Walt Disney Productions being its chief competitor in the 1930s. Fleischer Studios included '' Out of the Inkwell'' and '' Talkartoons'' characters like, Koko the Clown, Betty Boop, Bimbo, Popeye the Sailor, and Superman. Felix The Cat
Felix the Cat is a cartoon character created in 1919 by Otto Messmer and Pat Sullivan (film producer), Pat Sullivan during the silent film era. An anthropomorphism, anthropomorphic young black cat with white eyes, a black body, and a giant grin, he is often considered one of the most recognized cartoon characters in history.
