Margaret Collier Award
The Margaret Collier Award is a lifetime achievement award, presented to a Canadian writer for their outstanding body of work in film or television. Formerly presented as part of the Gemini Awards, it became part of the Canadian Screen Awards in 2013. It can be presented to an individual writer or writing team. Gemini Awards
The Gemini Awards were awards given by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television between 1986–2011 to recognize the achievements of Canada's English-language television industry. The Gemini Awards are analogous to the Emmy Awards given in the United States and the BAFTA Television Awards in the United Kingdom. First held in 1986 to replace the ACTRA Award, the ceremony celebrated Canadian television productions with awards in 87 categories, along with other special awards such as lifetime achievement awards. The Academy had previously presented the one-off Bijou Awards in 1981, inclusive of some television productions. The awards' name was an allusion to Castor and Pollux, a mythological pair of twins; this was in reference to Canada's linguistic duality of English and French, with the Academy's separate awards presentation for French-language television production named the Gémeaux Awards. Douglas Bowie
Douglas Bowie (born 1944) is a Canadian playwright and screenwriter from Kingston, Ontario. Born and raised in Ottawa, he attended Queen's University and Carleton University, and worked in advertising copywriting in his early career. He won second prize in a television writing contest sponsored by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 1967 for ''Who Was the Lone Ranger?'', which was filmed and broadcast by the network later that year as an episode of the dramatic anthology series ''Teleplay''. He wrote further screenplays for that series, as well as standalone television films, miniseries and radio dramas in the 1970s and 1980s, before moving into playwriting with ''The Noble Pursuit'' in 1991. Patrick Watson (December 23, 1929July 4, 2022) was a Canadian broadcaster, television and radio interviewer and host, author, commentator, actor, television writer, producer, and director for five decades. Early life Born on December 23, 1929, in Toronto, Watson attended the University of Toronto and graduated with an MA. He began working on his doctorate at the University of Michigan, but withdrew in 1955 to focus on working for CBC Television.
