Mapillary
Mapillary is a service for open-source sharing of crowdsourced geotagged photos, developed by remote company Mapillary AB, based in Malmö, Sweden. Mapillary was launched in 2013 and acquired by Meta Platforms, Inc. in 2020. It offers street level imagery similar to Google Street View. History Mapillary co-founders were Jan Erik Solem, Johan Gyllenspetz, Peter Neubauer and Yubin Kuang. According to Solem, Mapillary was founded to allow crowdsourcing of street-level imagery for use with computer vision. The project started in September 2013, with an iPhone app released in November 2013, followed by an Android app released in January 2014. Mapillary received $1.5 million in seed capital funding from a group of investors, led by Sequoia Capital in January 2015. KartaView
KartaView, formerly called OpenStreetView and OpenStreetCam, is a project to collect crowdsourced street-level photographs for improving OpenStreetMap operated by Grab Holdings. Collected imagery is published under a CC BY-SA license and whilsome of the project's codeis released as open source, much of it (most notably, the mobile app) still require proprietary software to function. This is one of the few alternative platforms that offer street view like Google. Contributors gather imagery with their smartphones using an Android or iOS app. It is also possible to upload images captured with other cameras. The KartaView app supports using an OBD-II dongle plugged into the vehicle; in concert with the mobile device's GPS, KartaView can derive more accurate image locations. Amazon Rekognition is a cloud-based software as a service (SaaS) computer vision platform that was launched in 2016. The Open Database License (ODbL) is a copyleft license agreement intended to allow users to freely share, modify, and use a database while maintaining this same freedom for others. ODbL is published by Open Data Commons, which is part of Open Knowledge Foundation.
