Maloof Skate Park
The Maloof Skate Park, or Maloof Money Cup Washington DC Skate Park, opened to the public in March 2012. It is a 15,000-square-foot skate park, located next to RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. The park was designed by Pro Skater Geoff Rowley and Joe Ciaglia's team at California Skateparks. The Maloof Money Cup builds skate parks for public use in exchange for hosting access, and the total cost of building the DC Skate park is estimated to be nearly a million dollars. After the inaugural Maloof Money Cup DC in September 2011 was hosted here, the park remained closed to the public, and although there were rumors of deconstruction, the park is now open for day use. Landscaping around the park has been completed, although the parking lot pavement is abysmal. Maloof Money Cup
The Maloof Money Cup was an annual skateboarding competition for amateur and professional skateboarders founded by Joe and Gavin Maloof of the Maloof family. The events were held in four cities: Costa Mesa, California, in 2008, 2009, 2010; New York City in 2010 and 2011; Washington, D.C. in 2011, and in Kimberley, South Africa, in 2011 and 2012. The aim of the competition was to raise awareness of skateboarding and to encourage participation in skateboarding events and activities. Organizers also aim to contribute new skateboarding infrastructure and boost retail activity in those areas where events are held. History The inaugural event was held in 2008 at the OC Fair & Event Center in Orange County, California, with approximately 25,000 attendees. In 2010 the competition expanded to New York City. Events DC is the official convention, sports and entertainment authority for Washington, D.C.. Events DC is a quasi-public company based that owns and manages the Walter E. Skateparks In The United States
A skatepark, or skate park, is a purpose-built recreational environment made for skateboarding, BMX, scootering, and aggressive inline skating. A skatepark may contain half-pipes, handrails, funboxes, vert ramps, stairsets, quarter pipes, ledges, spine transfers, pyramids, banked ramps, full pipes, pools, bowls, snake runs, and any number of other objects. History Most of the early skateparks were in the United States. The first skatepark in the world, Surf City, opened for business at 5140 East Speedway Road in Tucson, Arizona on September 3, 1965.
