Mali Yaro
Abdoulaye Boureima (born 1 January 1973), popularly known as Mali Yaro, is a Nigerien Songhai people (subgroup), Songhai musician. He began his artistic career as a young goumbé player (a traditional songhai music instrument made of a Calabash (percussion), calabash covered with cowhide). Then, together with friends, formed in 1996 a music group, the Goumbé Stars. Mali Yaro songs were about love, rejoicing and a call for cohesion. Mali Yaro has produced 9 albums. He has performed in the Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium and the United States and in several other countries in Africa and elsewhere. Early life Mali Yaro was born in Sirfi Koira, a town in the Tillaberi Region of Niger. Mali Yaro dropped out of school in 1987 due to his love for music and travelled to the Nigerien Capital, Niamey in pursuit of his ambition. Career Mali Yaro became a minor celebrity entertainer in the city's nightlife in the late 1990s, using the characteristic songhai goumbé instrument and rhythms. I ...

Téra Department
Téra is a Departments of Niger, department of the Tillabéri Region in Niger. Its capital is the city of Téra. As of 2011, the department had a total population of 579,658 people. History Téra Department covers most of the historic territory of Liptako. Today it is primarily a home to speakers of Songhoyboro Ciine, Songhay Cine, a Southern Songhay languages, Songhai language. Prior to the Songhai Empire, the area was populated by Gurma people, Gourmantche and Mossi people, Mossi peoples. By the 16th century Téra was one of the many small states which survived the destruction of the Songhai Empire, with many Songhai people, Songhai communities resettling into what is today Niger from the north. The Dendi people, Dendi Songhai state of the 17th century ruled the area, before dividing into several small states, each ruled by an Askia of Songhai noble lineage.
