''Magic Mirror'' is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Pearl Charles. It was released on January 15, 2021, through Kanine Records. Release Pearl Charles announced the release of her second studio album on September 15, 2020. Singles On September 15, 2020, Pearl Charles released the first single from the album, "What I Need". In a press release of the single, Charles explained: "Have you ever stuck with something long after it was time to let go? "What I Need" explores this choice in terms of a breakup, though it could really be applied to any situation that is no longer serving you. It's the age-old story of wanting to stay in a comfortable relationship but knowing that you have to move on for personal growth, and the fear and uncertainty that being alone will bring, even though it's for the best." Pearl Charles (born May 11, 1991) is an American singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California. Her sound is a melding of 1960s rock and 1970s cosmic country. Education Pearl Charles earned a BFA in music from CalArts. Music Pearl Charles got her start as a musician at age 18 in a country duo called the Driftwood Singers, with Christian Lee Hutson. She then went on to join a garage rock band called the Blank Tapes as drummer. Charles began a solo project in 2012, and released her first solo record, a 2015 self-titled EP on Burger Records. According to ''Billboard'', Charles is a genre-blending artist in the style of Lana Del Rey and Jenny Lewis, with "subdued vocals and more uptempo, playful production". Whispertown (formerly known as Whispertown 2000 or the Whispertown 2000) is an American indie music project from Los Angeles, California, fronted by singer-songwriter Morgan Nagler. They have toured or performed with Bright Eyes, Rilo Kiley, Jenny Lewis, the Breeders, She & Him, Maria Taylor, M. Ward, Margot & the Nuclear So and So's and the Elected. Beachwood Sparks are an American alternative country band from Los Angeles. An article in ''The Daily Telegraph'' on America's underground psychedelic pop scene described Beachwood Sparks as "country through a kaleidoscope". Biography The band was formed by bassist Brent Rademaker and guitarist Christopher Gunst who met in the 1990s when both were members of Los Angeles indie-rock group Further. Guitarist Dave Scher and drummer Jimi Hey (who played with Gunst in Strictly Ballroom) were recruited before the band's first show in June 1997. The pedal steel guitar is a console steel guitar with pedals and knee levers that change the pitch of certain strings, enabling more varied and complex music to be played than with other steel guitar designs. Like all steel guitars, it can play unlimited glissandi (sliding notes) and deep vibrati—characteristics it shares with the human voice. Pedal steel is most commonly associated with country music and Hawaiian music.
