The Macao Central Library (; ) is a library of the Macao Public Library system, in São Lázaro (Saint Lazarus Parish), Macau. History On 28 September 1895, the National Library of Macau, initially a part of the Liceu de Macau, the Lusophone high school of Portuguese Macau, was first established in St. Augustine's Church. The Portuguese government had announced two years earlier that it wished to establish a library facility in Macau. The Macao Public Library (; ), formerly known as Macao Central Library; founded in 1895, is a public library system under the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government. There are 15 branch libraries including Macao Central Library in the Macao Public Library network, as well as a special library. In 2023, the public library system had approximately 2.54 million library visitors, and more than 550,000 books will be borrowed. Liceu de Macau () was a Portuguese-curriculum public secondary school in Sé, Macau, Sé, Macau. It was the territory's only public Lusophone secondary school.Clayton, Cathryn H.
