''MPSIB'' is an Australian television series that aired on ABC in 1982-83. It featured Michael Preston, Peta Toppano and Barry Quin as officers in the Missing Persons Special Investigation Bureau (or Branch). Reception of the opening episode was negative. The Sydney Morning Herald's Susan Orr wrote "A fairly superficial and confused drama but some convincing acting from the leading characters, especially Mike Preston" Jacqueline Lee Lewes of The Sun-Herald wrote "The script is over-plotted and contrived, the dialogue heavy-handed, the action stagey and the acting shallow." Michael Shmith of the Age was also critical but wrote "MPSIB may well mature into a fine series as the weeks go by. It may well be that this first episode has been designed as a familiarisation course, and the characters might be less obviously detailed in future episodes. We shall see ..." Eric Tayler
Eric Archdale Tayler (4 December 1921 – 6 August 1997) was a New Zealand-born television producer, director and actor, best known for his work for the BBC in the United Kingdom and the ABC in Australia. Biography Tayler was born in Hamilton, New Zealand, and educated at Auckland Grammar School. He served in the New Zealand Army during World War II as part of the second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. In 1947, Tayler moved to London, where he attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) from 1947 to 1950, which was where he met his wife, Welsh-Australian actress Lyn James, with whom he had two children. In 1955, Tayler joined the drama department of the BBC, working on such programmes as ''Maigret'', ''Z-Cars'' and a 1962 adaptation of ''Oliver Twist''. In 1965, Tayler joined the Australian Broadcasting Commission as a producer, where he produced several drama series including ''Contrabandits''. Peta Toppano
Peita Margaret Toppano (born 1951) known as Peta Toppano is a British-born Australian actress, singer and dancer. She is most widely known for her roles in television soap opera's including '' The Young Doctors'' as Dr. Gail Henderson, ''Prisoner,'' as Karen Travers, '' Return to Eden'' as Jilly Stewart, and briefly ''Home and Away'' as Helen Poulos. Toppano was married to her ''Prisoner'' co-star Barry Quin who portrayed Dr. Greg Miller and subsequently TV executive and billionaire business mogul Kerry Stokes. Michael Preston
Michael Preston (born Jack Davies; 14 May 1938) is an English international film and television actor, and singer, sometimes credited as Mike Preston. Life and career Preston was born in Hackney, London, England. He was a boxer and then became a singer. He appeared on '' Oh Boy!'' and his third record, "Dirty Old Town" (1959) was produced by Joe Meek. He had three Top 40 hits in the UK Singles Chart, including reaching No. 12 with his cover version of " Mr. Blue" in November 1959, before emigrating to Australia where he worked as a nightclub singer. He then became a host on television, and also an actor. He was a regular host on ''In Melbourne Tonight'' in 1968, and in 1969 was a guest celebrity on the game show '' The Celebrity Game'' and went on to host the revival in 1976–1977. Barry Quin (born 1949) credited also as Barry Quinn, is a British-Australian actor and briefly producer who has appeared on stage and television and film, on the small screen he has featured in numerous TV series and mini-series, but he is best known for his role as an original cast member of TV series ''Prisoner'' playing Dr. Greg Miller. Biography A graduate of the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London, Quin was primarily a stage actor in his early career. After a small role in the British television series ''Just William'' in 1977, he had bit parts on UK sitcom '' Two's Company'' and US drama series ''Charlie's Angels''. Michael James Carlton, (born 31 January 1946) is an Australian former media commentator, radio host, television journalist, author and newspaper columnist. He formerly co-hosted the daily breakfast program on Sydney radio station 2UE with Peter FitzSimons and later Sandy Aloisi. Carlton was known for his criticism of conservative public figures such as former prime minister John Howard, former Liberal leader Alexander Downer, and conservative governments, including the United States' Ronald Reagan, Reagan and George W.
