Lucky Jordan
''Lucky Jordan'' is a 1942 film directed by Frank Tuttle, starring Alan Ladd in his first leading role, Helen Walker in her film debut, and Sheldon Leonard. The screenplay concerns a self-centered gangster who tangles with Nazi spies. Plot During World War II, gangster Lucky Jordan ( Alan Ladd) is drafted into the Army and sent to a training base near his New York home office. Jordan avoids the rigors of boot camp by hiding out in the unit's canteen. But one of the attendants, Jill Evans ( Helen Walker), reports him to the base colonel. As a result, he is thrown in the stockade but later escapes by stealing an army engineer's car. Mabel Paige (December 19, 1880 – February 9, 1954) was an American stage and film actress. Early years Paige began acting at age four, when she appeared in ''Van, the Virginian''. Darrell Ware (1906–1944) was an American screenwriter and film producer. Kitty Kelly (born Sue O'Neil; April 27, 1902 – June 29, 1968), was an American stage and film character actress. Biography Born in New York City in 1902, Kelly was best known as a member of the Ziegfeld Follies and her radio hosting with Columbia Broadcasting. One of her best-remembered roles is that of Lt. Ethel Armstrong in the 1943 Paramount wartime drama ''So Proudly We Hail!''. However, she is probably better remembered in the 1935 ''Our Gang'' comedy short ''Beginner's Luck''. Anthony Caruso (April 7, 1916 – April 4, 2003) was an American character actor in more than one hundred American films, usually playing villains and gangsters, including the first season of Walt Disney's ''Zorro'' as Captain Juan Ortega. Clem Guy Bevans (October 16, 1880 – August 11, 1963) was an American character actor best remembered for playing eccentric, grumpy old men. Early life Bevans was born in Cozzadale, Ohio. Career Bevans had a very long career, starting in vaudeville in 1900 in an act with Grace Emmett. He progressed to burlesque, Broadway, and even light opera, before making his film debut at the age of 55 in ''Way Down East'' (1935).
