Louth Junior A Football League
The Louth Junior A Football League, or Division 3A of the county football Leagues, is an annual Gaelic football competition. Introduced in 1921, it is contested by Junior clubs in County Louth. The captain of the winning team is presented with the Dixon Cup. Format A Final to determine the winner was held annually until 1996, when the format changed. At the end of the league programme, the team with the most points is now awarded the trophy and is promoted to Division 2. The second-placed team can obtain promotion by winning a play-off involving a Division 2 club. In 2019, Division 3 was split into separate A and B grades. Trophy The MacArdle Cup was presented to each winning team until 2014, when it was replaced by the Dixon Cup. Stabannon Parnells GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Stabannon, County Louth, Ireland. The club is primarily concerned with the game of Gaelic football. History Located in the village of Stabannon, County Louth, Stabannon Parnells GFC was founded in 1933, however, the existence of Gaelic football teams in the parish predates the foundation of the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1884. The club first fielded a team in 1934 when Stabannon Parnells entered the Louth second division championship. Between 1949 and 1956 the club contested four Louth SFC finals and won two, including being the first ever recipients of the Joe Ward Cup. After winning the Louth IFC title in 1989, the 1990s proved to be a successful decade, with four Louth SFC titles secured from six final appearances in ten years. St Kevin's GAA (Louth)
St Kevin's GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club that fields teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. It is located in the townland of Philipstown, just over 2 miles from the town of Dunleer in mid-Louth. As of 2023, the club competes in the Louth Intermediate Championship and Division 2 of the county football Leagues. Thomas McNamee is the manager of the senior team. St Bride's GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club that fields gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. It is based in the County Louth village of Knockbridge. As of 2023, the club competes in the Louth Senior Championship and Division 1 of the county football Leagues. Gary Mallon is the manager of the senior team. History The club was founded in 1927. O'Raghallaighs GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association club from Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland. The club fields Gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. The club has GAA Handball teams and the ladies football team is an amalgamation with the Slane Road team Oliver Plunketts GFC, forming the O'Raghallaighs/Oliver Plunketts Ladies GAA. Oliver Plunketts GFC is a GAA club located in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland. From its base on the Slane road, the club serves the Mell Parish in West Drogheda and fields gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. In 1957 the club won the Louth Senior Football Championship, defeating St Mary's of Ardee. They went on to complete the League and Championship double that year by beating Dundalk Young Irelands in the final of the Cardinal O'Donnell Cup. Na Piarsaigh/Blackrock CLG is a GAA club from Dundalk, County Louth, which fields Gaelic football, Hurling and Camogie teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. Until the establishment of Omeath's Cúchulainn Gaels in 2005, Na Piarsaigh was the youngest Gaelic football club in Louth. History The club was founded in 1982 by residents of the Holy Family parish in Dundalk to provide a sporting outlet for an area of the town experiencing significant population growth. The 1993 Louth Junior Football Championship was the club's first significant success. John Mitchels GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club that fields gaelic football teams in competitions organised by Louth GAA. It is based in the townland of Ballybailie, part of the civil parish of Ardee, less than two miles from Ardee town centre.
