San Diego River
The San Diego River is a river in San Diego County, California. It originates in the Cuyamaca Mountains northwest of the town of Julian, then flows to the southwest until it reaches the El Capitan Reservoir, the largest reservoir in the river's watershed at . Below El Capitan Dam, the river runs west through Santee and San Diego. While passing through Tierrasanta it goes through Mission Trails Regional Park, one of the largest urban parks in America. It flows near the Mission San Diego de Alcalá. The river's valley downstream from there is known as Mission Valley for that reason. Flinn Springs, California
Flinn Springs is an unincorporated community in the East County, San Diego, East County region of San Diego County, California. History Flinn Springs is named for early settler James Ebenezer Flinn, a native of Missouri who moved to the area and established a farm prior to 1874. Sometimes Flinn's father, Dr. William E. Flinn, is credited as the founder of Flinn Springs instead. The settlement was also known as "La Viñita" (Spanish for "the little vineyard") because the Flinns made and sold wine at their farm. Geography Flinn Springs straddles Interstate 8, which runs from east to west through the region. U.S. Route 80 passed through Flinn Springs from 1926 until the route was decommissioned in California in 1964. The historic highway continues to serve as the community's main thoroughfare. Rancho Cañada De Los Coches
Rancho Cañada de los Coches was a Mexican land grant in present-day San Diego County, California given in 1843 by Governor Manuel Micheltorena to Apolinaria Lorenzana. This small land grant was located just west of Flinn Springs and in the center of Rancho El Cajon. The San Diego Mission fathers formerly watered their swine in dry seasons at a little spring arising from subterranean sources, thus giving it its name of "Glen of the Hogs". The site is now registered as California Historical Landmark #425. History Apolinaria Lorenzana (1790–1884) came to California with her mother in 1800. When her mother returned to Mexico, Apolinaria moved to San Diego, under the care of Raymundo Carrillo. Apolinaria Lorenzana remained a single woman devoted to the church. As a result of her religious devotion, she was called "La Beata", meaning "the pious one".
