Hotel Loraine
Hotel Loraine, also known as The Loraine, is a ten-story hi-rise built as a hotel in 1924 a block southwest of the capitol in Madison, Wisconsin. It was the city's leading hotel from the time of construction to 1968. In 2002 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Walter Schroeder was a Milwaukee businessman who inherited his father's insurance, mortgage, and bond business in 1897. In 1912 he orchestrated the establishment of a rebuilt Wisconsin Hotel in Milwaukee. When it failed to make a profit, he took over management and turned it around. Loraine Building
The Loraine Building, located at 124 East Fulton Street in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was constructed as an apartment building, and was later converted into office space. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. History In 1901, Frank Immen constructed this building, the first apartment building in Grand Rapids catering to upper-middle-income tenants. The original structure was five floors tall, houseing commercial space on the fist floor and apartments above. The building was known as the "Immen Building" for a short time, but Immen soon changed the name to the "Loraine Building" in honor of his wife. In 1910 Immen sold the building to retired Tennessee lumberman Alston Willey. Willey added a sixth floor atop the building. The Loraine Baronetcy, of Kirk Harle in the County of Northumberland, was a title in the Baronetage of England. It was created on 26 September 1664 for Thomas Loraine, High Sheriff of Northumberland. The second Baronet was Member of Parliament for Northumberland. The third Baronet was High Sheriff of Northumberland in 1742, the fourth Baronet in 1774 and the fifth Baronet in 1814.
