Loose Ankles
''Loose Ankles'' is a 1930 pre-Code romantic comedy with songs, produced and released by First National Pictures, which had become a subsidiary of Warner Bros. The film was directed by Ted Wilde and stars Loretta Young, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Louise Fazenda and Edward Nugent. It was a remake of the 1926 silent film titled '' Ladies at Play'', which had been produced by First National Pictures. Both versions were adapted by Gene Towne from the 1926 play ''Loose Ankles'' by Sam Janney. Sam Janney was to direct the film but died in a car crash during production. The film's copyright was renewed, so it will not go into the public domain until January 1, 2026. Plot Ann Harper Berry (Loretta Young), a young socialite, receives an inheritance of $1 million from her deceased grandmother. Ted Wilde
Ted Wilde (December 16, 1889 – December 17, 1929) was a comedy writer and director during the era of silent movies, though he also directed two talkies released in 1930. He was born in New York City. His initial career was as a member of Harold Lloyd's writing staff. His final film as a director was ''Clancy in Wall Street''. He died of a stroke in Hollywood at the age of 40, and was interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California. Awards He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director of a Comedy Picture, but did not win, in the 1st Academy Awards for the film ''Speedy''. Daphne Pollard
Daphne Pollard (born Daphne Trott; October 19, 1891 – February 22, 1978) was an Australian-born vaudeville performer and dancer, active on stage and later in US films, mostly short comedies. Diminutive stage star Born Daphne Trott, in the inner Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy, to Walter William Trott and Annie née Daniels, she joined the Pollard Lilliputian Opera Company at the age of six, having been taken to rehearsals by her older sister, Ivy, who was also a performer. The Pollard company featured performers whose ages ranged from six to sixteen years, playing light opera, operetta and musical comedy (LeCoq, Offenbach, etc.). They toured Australia, New Zealand and the United States in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and were well received and highly acclaimed. Over the 46 years she was active as an actress, she worked in films, stage, radio and television.
